Getting To Know Annette (Psilo)

blackbird with worms.jpg - 40538 Bytes Annette and her husband Richard live near the countryside with their three little children, Ben aged 10, Jennifer 9 and Simon 5.

As a little girl Annette enjoyed the lovely walks she took with her dad where he would point out the various birds to her. This instilled in her a love of birds and nature. Later on she became a volunteer for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. mute swan.jpg - 78953 Bytes

Her interest in birds was put on hold during the time she was having her family but now she has a little more time to pursue her interests.

She was introduced to Gardenbuddies by a friend who told her of our Geranium and Aquilegia Galleries. You must all check out Annette’s website as she has some very interesting perennial plants to explore. Cottage Garden Seeds

Annette and her family live on the edge of an oak woodland which was part of an estate dating back to the seventeenth century. To the north they have the moors which is a breeding ground for wading birds. From this vantage point one can see views to the coast which is 40 miles away.

purple sandpipers.jpg - 44640 Bytes Although their block of land is quite small it hasn’t stopped Annette from following her dream. She has taken on three allotments totalling 900 square metres where she grows geraniums, aquilegias and and many more unusual perennials.

Robin4.jpg - 30115 Bytes There are an abundance of birds to see on her plot of land such as Robins, Blue Tits, Goldfinches, Wrens, Greater Spotted Woodpeckers, Green Woodpeckers, Birds of Prey and many, many more. She also sees a lot of Grey Herons flying over. We hope you get that new camera very soon Annette as you have so many varieties to share with us.

One of her favourite birds is the Woodpecker but they mainly stay high in the treetops and she would love to get a close up shot. The common Robin is also a favourite as they are so cheeky the way they come looking for her to throw them a worm or two.

woodpeckerclose.jpg - 41600 Bytes A particular Woodpecker that Annette would love to see is the very elusive Lesser Spotted Woodpecker which is much smaller than the other two species they have in the UK. This is definitely number one on her wish list.

There is no need for Annette to plant special shrubs and bushes for the birds as they have their beautiful woodlands haven. Until now she hasn’t put out feeders due to the plentiful supply of food in the natural environment. However this winter she has planned a special project in designing a feeding station for the purpose of getting the birds to come a little closer so that she can get some good photos. Well we are very grateful to your friend who gave you the contact for Gardenbuddies as you are a very interesting and dedicated poster.

We look forward to lots more photos of your beautiful English Birds in the future and thank you for letting us get to know you better.
