Madeira – A Dream for Friends of Nature
For everyone loving sun and nature, a flower, bathing in the ocean or exploring along the waterways (levadas), or looking around in the many beautiful gardens, Madeira is a paradise.
Madeira is a relative small island in the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 20 km wide and about 60 km long. Madeira belongs to Portugal and has some 290,000 inhabitants, around 2000 km of levadas, and dramatic valleys full of trees and plants and may walking possibilities. The island also has a good net of highways and a completely new airport. On the slopes of Madeira there are many terraces, built a long time ago, where they grow all sorts of products like vegetables and fruits.
There are many small towns and places mostly along the shore.
The capital is the city of Funchal with plenty of hotels and restaurants and other specialty shops.
I enjoyed very much taking nature walks, mostly along the levadas with some friends and watching nature and people.
