we have heard you can prepare it in over 100 different ways. We still have many different ways to try out. The fish you can buy in the normal food stores or at the fish market.
Our local food store has a very good selection of fish and meat. Fruit, flowers and vegetables can also be bought at the market.
Of course you can also eat good fish and meat in the many fine restaurants you can find over the island. All goods produced on the island itself are inexpensive, but imported things are more expensive. Everyone pays with Euros here on Madeira which is very practical.
The Christmas and New Year time is very special treat on Madeira. All the streets are jewelled with “millions” of colour lamps. These form all kind of “drawings” or nice figures and are really a fantastic decoration of the streets during the December month. You see some examples here.
On New Year Eve there is a very special display of fireworks. Hotels and restaurants are always filled up in advance with many people coming down from London and other places in planes with many of them going directly back the following morning again.
Around Madeira in the archipelago of Macronesia there are also some small islands (nature reservoirs) which it is possible to visit with sailing boats when the weather is good. Among them is “Deserta Grande”
where most birds are inhabitants. One is not allowed to walk free, but must follow certain paths at water level only. Very interesting on the trip to these islands is the possibility to see whales and nises.
The only big problem with Madeira is that when you have been there once, chances are big that you like it so much that you always go back to Madeira again and you will never get to see anything else.
