Birds Tim's Way

Family BB feed.JPG

Tim has had a fascination for birds for as long as he can remember but about 4 years ago he became much more interested after he saw his first ‘local’ blue birds. Around a year after this he put up his first Bluebird House and had tenants within a month or so.

That pair raised 4 young and Tim was ‘hooked’. Since then he has seen 21 babies fledge. Tim regards himself as being somewhere in between Birdwatcher and someone who

just loves birds, probably a little of each. He is trying to learn more of the distinctive songs to enable himself to identify new birds without actually seeing them.

There are 7 different feeders in Tim’s garden, two suet, two mixed tubes, two peanut and one thistle sock. In the summer he adds a mealworm, Oriole and also a Humingbird Feeder. His DW enjoys the birds but thinks he is a bit obsessive. She is not at all keen on the squirrels who tend to chase her off their own deck as they come around for bits of leftovers.

Tim’s philosophy on bird photography is to have a good digital camera with at least an 8x lens and multiple picture shooting capabilities. He usually takes 40 to 50 shots and keeps around 2.

Tim says “ Always have a camera ready for unexpected visitors as you never know when a new feathered friend might drop by your feeder on the way to another location.”

Capturing birds doing what birds do is what makes his day. His most exciting and memorable experience was the first time he caught the bluebirds on camera although each new sighting is always exciting. I asked Tim if he has a favourite bird and I quote Tim here “my favourite is definitely the bluebird as they are the ones who got me ‘hooked’.”
