Who's home is in a country so rich and steeped in history. Home of Gustav Vigeland the infamous Sculptor. History ladened with brave Vikings and enchanting Norge Villages that are so surreal that they seem to appear like something out of a fairy tale. So tell us Finn, Have you always lived in Oslo?

I was born some 50 Kilometer south of Oslo but after the first few Schoolyears we moved to Oslo to get further education and some work. As a family we have traveled alot during our lives and moved to Oslo and settled down in our present home in 1977 which is 28 years ago. With the children becoming school age we felt it was time to do so. As far as gardening, time was always a factor for me. I worked for an International Company and was always traveling. I have been retired now for more than 3 years and somehow feel more busier than ever!

My love of Gardening was nurtured from a very young age.As a very young boy I would assist my Mother in her large Rock Garden.it was during that time that I fell head over heels in love with Clematis .I can vividly remember working with Clematis "Ville De Lyon","Jackmanii" and "The President".

I speak Norwegian most of the time except with my wife Jutta we Speak German since that is her nationality altho she has lived in Norway longer than her country Germany.Jutta is an expert in Cooking and baking and that is why we have incorporated beds for vegetables, rhubarb and of course Apples, Plums and many assorted berries for her baking!! Over the years we have removed several trees, but we still have quite a few left because they took up the light. We have very heavy clay soil here so we are always having to mix in sand and peat.and all this makes a lot of work but the advantage with clay soil is that it's very rich in nutrients so the roses and Clematis like it very much!!.An example is the Rose "Constance Spry" (pictured along side the house) has grown to more than 6 meter above the ground.

Jutta and I share the work in the Garden altho I do more now since my retirement and she still works at the Hospital. . She mainly takes care of the "food " and I sort of have the responsibility of taking care of the Roses and Clematis .At one time we had over 100 Roses and the same in Clematis but our winters have killed many of our Roses and we are down to about 50 roses yet the numbers of our Clematis have greatly increased to about 150 ( Not counting our Clematis that are in Containers). Winters are not as destructive to Clematis if one can steer clear of some of the Group 2s and I also have a Greenhouse which extends and permits me to have plants that I otherwise couldn't. Mainly groups 1 and groups 3 plants in the garden here - but some group 2 inside.

By now I am sure you have guessed my favorite flower is the Clematis. Clematis are a fantastic diversity flower that brings lots of pleasure and Challenges. Clematis are very easy to propagate and there are always seedlings and copies around ( In containers in the greenhouse for winter)!!.Without my greenhouse none of this could be possible, I have Clematis flowers almost all year round and love trying new Clematis from my seedlings to plant the seeds and come up with new colours and new forms of this delightful flower.this is what brings me pleasure and excitement to see it grow from seed and finally get to see the bloom when it opens for the very first time.

There is nothing more relaxing than after a long day than to go out into the garden and "sniff" in the wonderful fragrance of the flowers and the changes in the garden. Afterward you can walk back into your home and feel like a completely new Human Being. Good for yourself and everyone around.

During the winter I love going into my Greenhouse and turning up the thermostat and play with my clematis even if just on a rainy day.nothing is more soothing than to be in there an listening to the raindrops falling on the greenhouse roof with a wonderful glass of wine.
