This is a delphinium fairy tale that I had written last year because of a special picture..it seems Mara, alias Gardenfiend likes garden-related fairy tales...so hear it is ! "Once upon a time there was a young baby rabbit with a shiny grey fur and lovely black eyes with looooooong eyelashes.. He was born with the spring, in a secret hole safely hidden under the large mock orange of a beautiful garden….That was the garden of Lady Mara, the Sweet Fairy… Oh, he was still very young when summer arrived, only a small naughty little Bunny of a rabbit, not even big enough to hold his two long, furry ears straight at the same time… Every morning, when the sun would rise and light up the garden, Lady Mara used to come for a walk and visit her favourite flowers..And every morning, hidden in the grass, Bunny used to come too and wait for her, admiring her gracefully wandering through the alleys… Do you know what Bunny’s favourite breakfast was , in the morning ? It was the young shoots of that beautiful and slender blue flower, yes, that one, the one that grew right in front of the mock orange, not even at one jump’s distance from Bunny’s hole ! And baby Bunny was still a naughty little Bunny..he loved to play and to make jokes whenever the occasion was there… And Bunny was waiting for the Sweet Fairy to walk by him…She always started her tour with a beckoning to her favourite flower, that very blue flower that Bunny liked so much for breakfast…Here she is...gone ! Jump, Jump…a good bite in the tender shoots of the blue clump…What a treat !..And then Jump ! Jump ! under the mock orange, quick…ears flattened on his back…Sure, she couldn’t see him there ! And Lady Mara, on her way back from her walk, would have a second and loving look at her beautiful blue flower…and every morning, how amazing !..a new shoot had been devoured…she couldn’t believe it ! However close she would look, whatever leaves she would lift, whatever grumbles she could utter…not sign of those %$#% !&$ snails…they had vanished… Bunny was overwhelmed with joy…de-ligh-ted…He enjoyed every little second of it : Lady Mara wetting her long fairy skirt in the morning dew, in search of the invisible snails..Lady Mara muttering and swearing at those stupid snails…she would never guess !!! And he would roll up in the garden, laughing and giggling at his own fine joke… And every single morning he would start it all over again… But… on a fine and glorious day in June, lady Mara decided that she had enough…she started her walk as usual, but as she had turned the alley’s bend…she came back and hid herself, with her magic binoculars, in the small hut, half covered with honeysuckle, where she used to keep her garden tools, tidily arranged along the walls ( a fairy is always tidy, you know..). And she started her watch for those d…. snails, decided to catch them red-handed !!! And what do you think happened ? Through the binocular, no snail, oh no !…but our baby Bunny, yes !!!Oh…the scoundrel !!...She held her magic hoe, which was just hung there, and…. But just as she was about to put a spell on the greedy little thief, she saw, right above the mock orange, the broom of Zephy-the-Witch, her horrible, evil-minded enemy, flying above the garden in search of some bad trick … She saw the nasty witch turn herself into a huge black eagle, her long shiny claws already pointing at poor, unaware, unwise little Bunny !!! What could she do ?...She was so kind-hearted… Instead of the spell she had initially intended to punish the scamp.. « GARDACADABRA !!! » she turned our baby rabbit into ….another big blue delphinium ! Isn’t Blue, just the colour of fear ? And fear he had experienced, little Bunny, yes, when he had seen the eagle swooping down on him ! And Bunny also kept his beautiful wide black eyes, so that he could go on watching the Lady pass in the garden, every morning… But…as our little Bunny didn’t know how to hold his ears properly yet.the result was not exactly what it should have been….A blue delphinium with hanging ears ? Did you ever see such a thing ? It does exist, though..in Lady Mara the Sweet Fairy’s garden, there is a blue delphinium, with beautiful dark black eyes and two tips, one straight, one hanging ,yes,…doen’t it remind you of a young rabbit’s ears, if you have a close look at it ? I have been told that in the days of whispering winds, sometimes, the delphinium tips rustle as the Sweet Lady passes by… And as time passes, the blue of the delphinium deepens, and deepens …just as deepens Bunny’s fear to see, one day…an army of true, delphinium-eating snails invading the Lady’s garden…. " Hope you liked it !

Thank you for a very charming story. And touching - weeping a tear for the little bunny, I am. He has metamorphosed into a very lovely delphinium, however. In a beautiful garden which must belong to a different Lady that shares my name. No wide open spaces in mine, like in the picture. And Your Lady M has a tidy tool shed. She can't even be related to me! Thanks so much for writing the tale for us to read. I'll think of it whenever I see a delphinium bloom in my garden (if the slugs let it).

Oh thank you everyone... I could have written it with Lady Stephanie the Sweet Fairy, or Lady Monique the Sweet Fairy, or Lady Penny the Sweet Fairy as well..etc...! You all deserve it ! The only constant is, of course, the horrible Zephy the witch !! Lol...

That was a charming story! Well written and delightful, Zephrine! And Mara.... I am so happy to hear that a lady whom I admire greatly, has just as untidy a tool shed as I, LOL! There is some hope for me yet.
