Hello all, This is the first year I have grown delphs, was way too hot where I lived in Australia. I bought some tiny seedlings earlier this year and was amazed to see them flower first year. I am starting to save seed from some but am wondering if they grow true from seed. Most of the delphs I have are Magic Fountains. Tia

wow! No one even speculated? Well, I haven't intentionally saved/started delph seeds but luckily I've had a few volunteers start which replaced ones that die. They are Magic Fountains too. Same form but I think the color is a crap shoot. Kind of like their cousins, the larkspur (quite possibly one of my favorite plants).

Looks like you're it Blaine. I saved seed from the ones I liked most just in case, I was really blown away by the way they flowered , I wasn't expecting any the first year. Unfortunately for me the white one I liked most I missed out on , the flowers were really late and the seed didn't get to ripen before the killing frosts. It was white with green bits on the corners of each petal, reminded me of a snowdrop. Thanks for the input.

Hello Maggiepie, I probably should have introduced myself to you in the social forum first, but I recently ordered a packet of delphinium seeds from a seed company and I noticed that it says that the seeds should be germinated in the dark. I am going to try to get these seeds started. They are the "Summer Blues" variety. I will let you know how it goes. Maybe we can trade some seeds next year if all goes well. I think these plants are beautiful. Do you have any photos of yours? Beverly SW Missouri-USA
