I think I will always remember it as "Mara's Tree Peony", or, maybe..."Marahime Nishiki"...
(I mean, rather than its official name, 'Tamafuyo'...)

My favorite shade of pink. Now I have to go see if it's hardy here, and if I might have space for another...

Ohhhh! I just discovered this post. Isn't it lovely!?! Mine currently has many big bright pink buds that I expect will open in a couple of days. How thrilling to be promoted to the status of princess :-) And Nishiki which (Malgorzata?) I think means brocade. In any event it is used to name variegated plants. That makes me the variegated (mud-splashed) princess - just like my newest Epimedium.

Woops! Wrong translation in the section of a french book about asian hydrangea!!!! I should have checked beforehand...I do apologize, both to Mara and to our japanese friends!!! I didn't mean you were variegated at all, Mara! !!! The book says "nishiki" stands for "wonder"...and of course it doesn't! Would "Kyo Marahime" sound a more appropriate compliment? (inspired by another french translation of Hydrangea Kyosumi Sawa this time!) Maybe I should stick to western languages, after all....

That's because you haven't seen me after an hour in the garden. Variegated would be putting it kindly

I think most of us, here, share the same "variegation", Mara... They say variegation is often induced by viruses... Are we not all of us, here, proven victims of this worldwide epidemia (The virus of gardening, I mean!)? And chronic variegation certainly is a symptom!!!

What a beautiful flower, the colour reminds me of Sharifa Asma English rose.

Being closer to Siberia, Zephirine, my Tamafuyo is lagging behind yours... But I took a photo this morning of a bud - look how dark the colour is compared to the open flower!

Wonderful (should I say Kyo-ful?) picture, Mara! I can nearly touch it! I don't remember the buds on mine were so dark...I'll pay better attention next year! I fully agree with you, Helen : so few flowers have this delicate shade of pink : 'Sharifa Asma', 'Cuisse de Nymphe' and 'Mme Pierre Oger' come to mind... And also the two lovely Geranium sylvaticum called 'Angulatum' and 'Wanneri'...

What a beautiful shade of pink! So delicate, light, and papery. It has a very romantic cottage garden look.

I googled them and the Angulatum is really very pretty, I don't think it is available over here as yet. I couldn't find a picture of the Wanneri. The colour of the Angulatum looked to be a similar colour to my Geranium sanguineum striatum which I really love.

Here are 2 pics og G. sylvaticum 'Wanneri' for you, Helen. It is not as strong as 'Angulatum' (nearly lost it twice!), somewhat lower here, but really lovely!

Thank you for the pics Anne-Marie, it is such a beauty, the most delicate pink I have seen in a geranium. I sure hope you don't lose it. Is that dark flower near it a Phaeum? I bet those two colours look terrific together.

Tamafuyo is doing strange things this year. The dark colour on the buds continued into the open flowers, where it appears as blotches. They are on some of the outer petals too. I haven't seen that before and I can only guess it must be the result of some quirk of the weather at some decisive point in the development of the buds.
