I went on a Spring Garden Walk today...this was one of the many unusual flowers we had the pleasure of seeing. Does it look familiar to you peony officiandos? I've never seen one quite like it but I've (in recently years) just begun to really have a 'thing' for peonies. BTW, our host was a little under the weather so we didn't have the names of some flowers...this was obviously one w/no name.

This looks like the fern leaf peony. Can't think of the Latin name for now.

Nice clump!

Sue, it's not fern leaf. I have fern leaf...the foliage on this one is coarser and more leathery.

Sorry it's not tenuifolia as that is the fern leaf! Possibly anomala?

This one is closer although I've had a difficult time finding a good photo showing the foliage to compare the two. Thank you Sue and Ann.

Could it be Paeonia Mollis?

I think there are a number of species that are variations on tenuifolia. Although they are all classed as seperate species these things extend for thousands of miles across asia from the Caucusus through to China.Wild collected seed produces plants with leaves from wisps to quite substantial ones.Like Ann I think it could be anomala.

This peony looks very much like one that I grow called Peter Barr. I have been told that it is a hybrid involving the fern leaf peony. How tall is yours?
