hi all,
just wanted to check in and get to know some folks. i am looking forward to learning from all of you. i have not been too good at keeping track of the names of the peonies that i have. i'll have to get some pics up here pronto. they are in full bloom right now and of course today it rained like the dickens. i am excited that i was able to save several root stocks from my mother's peonies. (which gave me the love of them). they had been unattended and finally grown over by roots of the rose of sharon and scrub maples for about 13 years. i pulled them out in the middle of summer and replanted them here in RI from Mass two years ago. i know it was a bad time but it was the only time i was there. mom is long gone and the rest is a long story. five out of six them bloomed this year. just a few on each and the blooms are smaller than i remember as a kid but i am ecstatic. i am hoping that with care they will return to their glory. they used to be dinner plate sized. they are a dark pink so far. one was opening today. the root stock is at least 40-50 years old. i have a large white double with flacks of dark pink and a large pink double. they are both pretty fragrant. two years ago i bought a yellow tree peony and it bloomed a single flower this this year. i think my wife got a photo as i was away. it is a double.

peace
dana

Hi and welcome. I'm sure we'd all be interested in seeing photos of your plants. They sound wonderful. I inherited camellias from my mother and now that she is gone they are a great comfort to me. I think you did very well to transplant your mother's peonies and hopefully once they have settled well into your garden they will be restored to their former glory. It's such a pity when it rains at peony time! My Alice Palmer tree peony was just about ruined this year.

Welcome to the group! Yeah Rain - my feet are starting to web! I think it is very nice that you were able to take these flowers from your mothers garden and you can now grow them in her memory! Would love to see the pictures when you can! Good luck with your peonies! Golden
