Hi all. I moved here 5 yrs ago and there was a peony here. It has never bloomed and I don't know why? Should I get rid of it and get another? Help please.

It may have been planted too deeply, or it may just not like the spot it is in. I recommend you dig it out, carefully, this autumn and replant it in a nice, sunny spot, making sure the buds of new growth are no more than a couple of cm below the soil.

Thanks again for your help Mara. The peony is already in a sunny spot but I will try replanting it not so deeply. Hope this works.

My Peonys are planted in part shade and they do great. I get lots of blooms every year. They get afternoon sun. Jim

Yes, peonies don't seem to need sun all day. I don't know why it is, but transplanting peonies seems to encourage shy ones to start flowering - even if they weren't planted too deeply to begin with. It has worked for me a few times and others have had the same experience.

Mara is right - they can stand shade - but the depth of planting is the key thing. Give it a go and good luck - it will be worth it!

Thanks everyone for your advice.I was also wondering if it is too crowded where it is. Is that possible? It is in my garden bed with a lot of other plants.

Have you ever heard--to wash all the soil off the roots--to make it bloom? Someone told me that, I did it with one bush and it worked. Coincidence or not?

Hi Denise,no I've never heard that one but it's certainly worth a try. Thanks for the tip.I enjoyed looking through your photo gallery, everything so beautiful. I really liked what you did with all those big stones to make a natural looking border. Thanks again.
