I've forgotten who it is in GB that grows this peony, but I put it on my "to buy" list for spring. Does anyone know how tall it gets? Thanks in advance!

Our fernleaf gets a bit over 2 feet tall. Most say it stays a little under 2 feet tall.
A friend near Ogden says they love Utah :)

That is a nice plant Digger. I saw an are in East Germany at Halle Botanic Garden when it was still communist where this paeony had taken over. This was about 1980 and the garden had not been touched for 35 years It was about 60 feet square and they were all in flower(hundreds). In the centre was a massive Halesia monticola dripping with tens of thousands of white flowers. The sight was breathtaking

I bet it was breathtaking. For that matter, an area 8 feet square that a friend had was breathtaking. 60 feet square would be heart stopping :) Fernleaf are so easy care in the right conditions that they would spread to that size even if they started with a small clump.
I like them before the buds open :) They are incredible Notmartha :) The foliage feels like soft feathers. Children love to stick their face down in the foliage. You know I wouldn't do something like that....

Dave, I did manage to get a tiny piece from a Gardenbuddy last Spring. Planted it, and it kinda dried up and didn't do much. I marked the spot and kept it watered when it looked too dry. It still has about 2 feet of snow in that bed, so I am crossing fingers and toes that it is still alive. Does yours die back to nothing?

All the foliage (stem and all) dries up and dies when the plant goes dormant. Most people have that happen in late July. Ours stay green until August. Deb cuts the plant off a couple inches tall when it has dried up. She only leaves the stub to mark where each plant is. They are coming up all over the place out there right now. Don't water too much. I give them about half as much water as the roses get. Good luck with it and let us know how it goes *keeping fingers crossed :)*

Ok, well that gives me a little hope. It'll be one of the first places I check out once the snow goes. You'll hear me cheer from here if it survives. I've been wanting one ever since I saw pics of yours (Dave)

It is a wonderful plant. I'm not fond of most peonies but really like this one.
It does require winter chill. Mom has tried it several times in Sacramento. It just doesn't get cold enough there in winter. I haven't heard of anyone in zone 7 or above having any luck them.
