For the last few years my neighbors, Lou and Elaine, have had these ducks come and spend a day in their unopened pool.
They waddled around and swam in the water on top of the pool cover, enjoying the algae, then flew off in the late afternoon. Elaine calls it a day at the duck spa.

They take water wherever they find it. Our house on Huckleberry Mountain has big eaves, and puddles develop beneath then during a hard rain. Our ducks used to love to come over and party in the puddles. A pool would certainly have qualified as a spa in their minds.

Never thought of ducks as party animals but that's a cute story. I didn't get to see it but she had a white heron in there a week or so ago. I'd have loved to see that!

Sounds like a good place to set up a webcam. Anne

That is just too cute, Seil. Do you know from past experiences if they stay, once the pool is filled? It would likely work detrimentally for the people who are planning on using the pool. And the pool will be treated with Cloride (sp?) etc. too? Poor ducks. Thanks for a nice story.

Never thought of a web cam, Anne. They don't stay in the pool, just visit. We live on the lake and there are plenty of good nesting sites for them there. I think these two were just enjoying the feast before my neighbors remove the cover. We do occassionally see the ducks walking around the subdivision through the summer though.
