Sorry so many photos, there were a few kids tossing fish up to the frigate birds and they were swarming like seagulls. This is the closest I have ever been to them, they were flying just a short distance above our heads, very tough to shoot closeup.

This is two different shots, with some terrible photo-editing to make them one LOL

Very cool looking bird that I have never seen before. How come one has a white head and the rest all have black? Thanks for sharing!

BG,

The white headed bird is a juvenile :), the males are all black with a red patch of skin on the throat that they expand as part of the breeding ritual :). I don't think there were any males in the bunch. I don't often see the males don't know where they go.

Awesome DW. My brother was super excited because he got his first photos of frigate birds in San Juan.

Bravo DW! I've only seen them once, I was fortunate enough to get a shot, but would very much like another opportunity.

Those are wonderful photos, DW. That first one really gives you a feel for the size of these birds. The wing spans are amazing.

Great pictures - I got some photos also in April from Mexico - there were frigate birds and brown pelicans staying close to some fishing boats. I'll try and post some.
