I know little about the names but I find them fascinating! This one I know. It's called fly agaric ..
That is a Canadian quarter on top (shows how large it is). And this was by the river ... many of them, standing tall!

I have never seen one of those red ones before - it is quite striking. We get those taller ones on our lawn when it is really wet after a lot of rain. Thanks for sharing.

I think so, Suzy! It's actually a hallucinogen (under the right circumstances). And it's a toadstool. I'm learning new things all the time! I just thought it was pretty!

Thanks, Dave! I read up on them, now that I know what they're called. Turns out they are so strong they can lift asphalt. And they're mushrooms. I'd love to see some of the mushrooms or toadstools other gardenbuddies are finding this time of year, any time of year. I have a few of these, although the photo is from last year ..

You have some really different ones there, Donna. I've never seen them 'ringed' and the red is quite spectacular. Over the years I've discovered that many of these are really interesting, even the little capped ones that are so tiny. And we usually have groupings that come up in the lawn, but what I find amazing is that they grow in a circle, little rings of fungi. Don't have any right now, but they will come for sure. No doubt my soil is missing something, otherwise why would they grow. But intriguing. Love the purple ones, too!

Diane-- we have both of those too. I just love it when they pop up. We have a lot of old stumps burried under our lawn and I think that is where some of them come from. I'm just like a kid when the puffer balls pop out. I run around a stomp on them and watch them puff. Once a kid, always a kid!!

Loretta, your's appear to be a type of bolete. They would have a spongey area under the cap instead of gills like normal mushrooms.
