I thought that with all of the pretty magnetic covers, creative mailbox shapes, and colorful mailbox gardens I see these days, that GBs must have some great ones of their own to share. Mine had a rough night. LOL. That is why it isn't anything fancy... this isn't the first time this has happened. On top of that, it's very shady down there and the deer have eaten what few things I have ever tried to grow there. Hahaha!
On the bright side, it was another pretty sunrise.

Your poor mailbox,DJ! I guess that is someone's idea of fun. I have my eye on a cover but haven't purchased it yet. It has a Thanksgiving theme. Wonderful shot of the sunrise. A very nice way to begin the day.

Ooooh, that sounds fun. I've been tempted to try those in the past, but I've been afraid someone would steal them. Now I'm thinking about putting a mailbox on my house where it'll be safe, but then no one would ever get to see how I decorate it. I heard the mailman drive by a moment ago, so I peeked out the window to see how he was going to react to the mailbox. He just stuck the mail in and drove on down the road. I thought for sure he'd drive up the driveway and deliver it to the house. I guess I gave him too much credit in the Powers of Observation department. LOL. Soooo, I stuffed the back wall of the mailbox inside the mailbox. We'll see if he figures things out tomorrow. I considered removing the mailbox entirely, but I just know that they'd put an "undeliverable address" stamp on my mail and return it to sender.

That's terrible DJ. I'm sure if my mailbox was anywhere close to the road it would never stay upright or undamaged. You can build a stone/rock frame around your mailbox...you were looking for another project, right?! lol My brother has something similar to this: http://www.joespc.com/carlos/photo/mailbox20front.jpg

That's what my husband wants to do. If he ever does, I'm sure it'll just get taken out by the snowplows. Some people around here hang their mailboxes from the trees so that the snowplows don't trash them. One of our neighbors has his mailbox set back up his driveway a bit. I've considered that, too... the postman could just loop around our driveway, but I figure so could anyone else. I don't know what to do. That's the second time this mailbox has been smashed and the one before it was trashed once when we had it and obviously at least once before we bought the place. I give up. I wonder if that's why some of our other neighbors just pick up their mail at the post office.

Sorry about your mail box, DJ. What ever you do don't settle for one of those boring Rubbermade ones. Do something creative. Maybe a pumpkin for the Pumpkin House! I live along Lake St. Clair and there use to be a lot of fun and interesting mail boxes along the road. We had a trout, a swan, a sail boat etc. but now they're mostly just those plastic things. How dull.

Thanks, Seil. The lake mailboxes sound really cute. I think I've seen a swan before, but not a trout or a sailboat. That's very cool. I remember the giant concrete porpoises and manatees that people had in Florida. LOL. I've seen a birdhouse, pelican, rooster, and log house mailboxes around here. I don't know where they get them, though, or if maybe they make them themselves. I went out to buy a mailbox this morning and saw those ugly Rubbermaid ones. You'll be happy to know that I didn't get one. HAHAHA!! I did pick out a "virtually indestructible" mailbox, though. We'll see how accurate that is. Haha!! I have thought about making a pumpkin, tractor, or barn mailbox, but I knew it would either be trashed or stolen, so that's why I went with a pre-made one again. Uck. It's just shiny black with no detailing at all and I meant to go back and look at the magnetic covers I saw in another department, but I forgot. Geez, I just realized I forgot to get some replacement numbers, too. I'm on a real roll!

Look on line, DJ, I'll bet there are plans you can get for free to make your own mail box. Once you have a basic plan you could probably adapt it to make what ever you want.

Thanks, Seil. I think I'll start with just the mailbox and maybe a couple different magnetic covers and see how that goes. Maybe I'll try some Christmas decorations again this year, too. If I can go a few years without the mailbox getting trashed again, then maybe I'll think about putting some effort into making something more creative. Or maybe I'll use some of my extra Pumpkin paint and make it match the house. Hahaha!

We don't have a mail box. We live in the country and have super boxes, and ours is in a perfect spot for the mail carrier to pull in with her car and be out of traffic. It was just announced on Friday that 30% of these super boxes in British Columbia are being eliminated by Canada Post because they are not in a safe area for the carrier. (I know .. politics.) But we do have a paper box. We receive a morning and an afternoon paper. Our morning paper comes from Victoria, some 2 1/2 hours away from here, and it's delivered in the wee hours. We have a carrier now who is very good at doing her job, but the one before ... She was a hoot, loved our old cat, Purrt and often stopped and had a visit with her, but she did quite a number on our driveway, our sidewalk, our culvert reflectors and she ran into the steel pole that the plastic paper box sits on so many times that it will never be straight again. The plastic paper box has several splits in it and we've had to pull it back so that it faces the right direction. We can have it replaced .. although the sidewalk needs to be replaced as well, but she sometimes fills in for our present carrier. She really is a kind soul, sweet ... but when we hear a car hit the metal post at the top of our driveway first thing in the morning .. we know who is delivering the paper today!

I should probably add that the metal post and the paper box are owned by the morning paper, and they would certainly replace it if we asked. We will eventually. This Spring we're replacing the sidewalks .. all of them, and then I think we'll move the paper box farther up the driveway. I hesitate to put anything too solid around it. Shudder to think what she might do with an immovable object.

Diane, your story is hilarious. "A hoot" perfectly describes your other mail carrier. I had to look up "super box"... I'd never heard them called that before!

Yikes! I think I'd head for cover when I saw her coming. You're a very understanding and patient customer, Diane. I think most people would be pretty peeved. I'm surprised she's still around. She can't be doing this to just your box.

Just saw this thread and had to add....if our back door is open with the screen door closed, our mail-lady puts our mail on the end of the kitchen counter. How's that for service?

I live in a town home community so it's one of those big community style boxes. Our regular carrier however will deliver our packages to the door instead of putting one of those slips in our box telling us to get our packages from the post office. Which is good I hate the post office!
