Oh my! You are probably wondering what that last post was about. No picture showed up & after I posted that, your picture was there!

Now that I can see your actual butterfly box:
That is so neat! That is a better picture than those on the web site. This one gives a better idea of how they really look. I really really like that! I'm going back to that site now to check out the prices... I wonder if they sell itty bitty ones I could afford! hehehe

Dagnabbit! I wrote a whole load of stuff and uploaded pictures. Got to the last picture and the site froze. Wouldn't let me do anything. Exited and couldn't get back on for two hours Will write it all again later.

Right here we go again.

Seil wrote on Saturday, November 24, 2007 - 09:26 pm:

Did you get the candle holder that's on the web site? That's beautiful. I miss shopping outside going from shop to shop. Malls are so boring.

No Seil It was far too expensive. I bought it virtually. it was very beautiful. Would have looked lovely on my dining room table...until the kids knocked it off...Not really practical with two teenage boys in the house but I can dream. I agree with you about the malls. I keep hearing "Shopping experience" when they advertise these places but all I see is chains stores all selling the same thing. So uninspiring.

There is an antique shop near here that has many things for well over $40,000. Some of them come from the same period as my house. LOL.

*Gulp* thats serious money DJ. Have you scoured your house just in case their is a fortune tucked away in a dusty corner somewhere? You never know what you might find in an old farmhouse;)

Flowerfreak wrote on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 - 11:30 am:

That is one "girly" thing I do like.

The tomboy image is slipping Lisa LOL! First the pink flowers now butterflies. There is just no denying we are all girlies (just a little bit) HAHA! The butterfly boxes are lovely ( the ones in yours DJ are my favourite shade of blue)and I liked the fact that no butterflies were killed in the making of them. They were recycled once they had finished their short lives. Have you ordered one then Lisa? If so post a picture when it arrives.

Here are the pictures from the craft fair I went to. I couldn't take many as a lot of the stall holders get a bit funny when you ask them. They think you might pinch their ideas I guess.

This girl makes all the hats, bags and baubles from wire and recycled parts from old televisions. She also made earrings and brooches but I forgot to photograph those (OoGBoO)
Plant Forum
I wanted the belt in the top of this picture. They were all hand etched (is that the right word?) and one off designs. Hopefully I might get it as a present for my birthday
Plant Forum
The goblets in the display case were only about 1 inch high and both the goblets and the picture were made from the foil used to wrap chocolates. She had a pile of chocolates on her stand that we were welcome to eat as long as we left the wrappers. She didn't have to tell us twice LOL!
Plant Forum
Plant Forum
This display was made from folded recycled cardboard.
Plant Forum
And finally a felt clothing stand. I liked the blue jacket but it would have cost me 250 pounds!
Plant Forum
There was so much more there. Lots of jewellery stands, wood carvings, collages made from silk, pottery, hats, bags etc.etc. but the building it was held in was packed and as I said some stall holders were not happy for me to photograph their work.

Sorry did this in two posts. I got scared I might lose it all again.
Here are a few of the things I bought in Brighton.
Plant ForumFor my niece

Plant Forumfor my friend to hang in her pergola

Plant ForumFor my friend to go in her very girly kitchen

Plant ForumNot the jar but the voile and the beads. I fill them with lavender (collected from my garden) and bath salts and give them as presents.
Plant ForumLike this.
I also bought some clothes for my other niece some stocking fillers for my boys and a German Christmas cake from a specialist German market.
After Christmas I am desperate to go back during the sales and buy some lovely things I saw for me!

We have looked high and low. We find things here and there, mostly ephemera, but nothing of value. Of course!! LOL.

Too funny. I have three gold ones hanging in my kitchen window for Christmas. I'll try to post them after I download my photos. I think I have five of them, but I have run out of windows to decorate. Maybe I should put them in the bedroom.

That is an interesting and bizarre site, Mike. I've seen some of that stuff before -- like the rabbit birdbath -- on other sites, so it's really cool to find out where they come from. I had imagined China. HAHAHA! Those candles are so nice that it'd be a shame to burn one.

Moira, here are two of my crackle ornaments. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

Interesting site Mike. I like the advent candle rings. Can they be painted? The toast make me giggle. He makes gargoyles as well I see. There is a thread on GB at the moment with those in a garden and a poem about them.
What have you bought for your fabulous garden Mike? And have you changed any of your planters for Christmas? If so would love to see.

DJ I love your wreath, very pretty did you make it? Looks like you are well on your way to getting festive. I have not even started yet but seeing as we are not here for Christmas day I am not too worried yet.
The crackle ball I posted is about 3 times the size of yours. I was terrified carrying it around all day in case I dropped it or banged it into something. My friend has a large pergola with an edible grapevine growing over it. She has a few things hanging off of it like windchimes etc. Thought a big glass ball would be nice on it when it catches the light.
I notice you didn't comment on the candlestick LOL! Not my cup of tea either but my niece collects what we call 'tutti fruity' glass. (Do you get those sweets in USA?) She has a chandelier in her bedroom with the same colours and glass ornaments.
The German Christmas cake is called a stohlen made with marzipan. I would like to say that I was saving it for Christmas day but unfortunately there is none left!

OMG! That must weigh a ton!! Mine are super heavy and I have to buy heavy duty trees to hang them on. That's why I have switched to hanging them in the windows for the past couple of years.

That's hilarious, considering it's the back side of the wreath. LOL. I did make it, but it is artificial greenery. I have two others just like it so that my front windows match. They aren't anything fancy, just the silver bead strings, some small red ornaments, and a red bow. I made them several years ago and didn't want to spend much on them until I knew what I was going to do with the house. I never did figure out anything new and interesting to do to the house this year. I am uninspired. I guess the painting marathon burned me out in many ways. I'm not even buying Christmas presents this year.

We do have tutti fruity here. I didn't comment on all of the pinkery only because the only thing I could think of was that I couldn't believe that you would be caught dead buying so many pink things (even though they weren't for you). LOL!

Good girl!! Hahaha! I have a bread machine recipe for that (no marzipan, though, I should think) that I have considered trying for many years in a row now. Maybe this year... :-)

it did. I had backache for two days afterwards. Must have walked a good 2 miles whilst carrying it. Felt like being pregnant again. I Had it clutched in a bag in front of me so I wouldn't knock it.

I have a very good imagination Doesn't look artificial either.

I have several very girly girlfriends. In fact I think only two are quite tomboyish. My SIL loves pink...well purple/lilac now (still pink in my book) her last house had pink walls, pink throws on the sofa and pink cushions. I like blue and yellow although I have to admit to having a peach coloured hallway.

Thankyou...just means I will have to buy another one for Christmas...shame! Let me know if you make one and how it turns out. Whilst on the subject of making things I am still trying to find the ingredients to make your Russian tea. Instant orange/lemon and tea are hard to come by here for some reason. So far I have only found lemon but I am determined to make it as it sounds so delicious.

Ugh. I have a friend like that. She gets everything she can in pink. I'll bet my friend is girlier than any pink lovers you know, though. She collects wedding dress Barbies and rose-motif china teapots. LOL. Oh, and unicorns (but I can't hold that against her because I used to do that, too).

Anyway, I drifted in here myself to see if anyone knows where I might find a certain kind of candle holder that I just absolutely love. I think I first saw these back in the '70s or '80s. Mine was a little clear glass votive candle holder with a colorful butterfly on it. The butterfly looked sort of like stained glass... a black opaque outline filled in with transparent green and red and maybe some other colors, too. The clear votive candle holder sat inside of a frosted votive holder. When a candle was lighted inside of it, the butterfly appeared to dance and flicker across the frosted votive holder. I saw something similar in a catalog, maybe just before Thanksgiving. I didn't like the image on the inner votive holder, so I tossed the catalog. Now I can't figure out who sold it and I can't seem to find anyone else who sells such a thing.

For that matter, do you think it would work if I just used glass paints and hand painted such a contraption myself or do you think there is some secret trick to the whole thing that I am probably missing?
