Terry K, yes I have 7 growing, growing super since I put them into Miracle Grown soil. Their indoor, it doesn't say outdoor or indoor, i'm just assuming. I had thought they listed it having a scent, but now that I have looked it doesn't say scented. Maybe Tim will know about them. Thompson & Morgan www.thompson-morgan.com

They have been developed from Cyclamen persicum. Always amazes me how these plants crop up, and then get refined to a point where the characteristics have been stabilised enough to have a good percentage come true from seed. You'll have to post photos when you see flowers, Guff.

Tim, will do, they are really starting to grow nice. Well, I have finally gotten around to starting some seeds, I put my two packets of Purpurascens into some water, for a soaking. I will be starting my other packets soon, when I get some huge pots 12 in +. I thought about how much trouble it is to separate the seedlings, but with so many seeds, I wouldn't have enough room. I will be putting around 100 seeds into each pot.

So you don't want your house to look like mine Guff? It will be interesting to know how long you can keep the seedlings in the 12" pot. I left some of my c. coum in the original pots over the summer because I ran out of time to do everything. I found that the root system seemed to grow together and you tend to loose some of the roots when you separate the tubers. I would think that even a 12" pot for c. hederifolium would be too small for 100 seeds, c. coum may be ok.

TerryK, it will be only till spring time, then I will repot, or just plant them outside. With so many seeds, I won't be able to bring them back inside after the summer. I will build a cold frame if I don't plant them into the ground to help protect them. Last year when I started the seeds, I think the square pot/pan that I used was maybe 8 in by 5 in, and I put in a 100 seeds. I think it will be ok for 6 months, just like last year.

I found three seedlings popping up the other day, that didn't germ from last year. Nice surprise, extra plants that I didn't know I had.

Well, I got to the bonus pack, Hederifolium, silver leaves, pink flowers. The package said 35 seeds, but I think it is closer to a 100. I had forgotten how pain staking it is, to place so many tiny seeds. I may just do 50 seeds of my other two packets, Hederifolium pink/white well marked. I think there close to 150 in the 100 labeled packets, one full packet would be more then I could stand at one time, trying to place the seeds is so boring, and a killer on your back.

The same thing happened to me last year and that is how I ended up with as many seedlings as I have. I felt like I Love Lucy when she was working on the chocolate factory line and could not work fast enough! This year I found it somewhat relaxing. I found that doing rows and spacing them out better than I did last year made it easier.

TerryK, how many seeds did you start this year? I think I will wait until this weekend, and do around 50 each of my other two packets. Maybe I will do some experiments with some seeds, put them outside in pots, in a sheltered area, and see if they germinate, or when they germinate inside, stick the pot outside, in a sheltered area.

Not as many as last year but I will have about four trays of seeds that will then need to be transplanted. Some of the pots are only a few seeds so that will be ok, won't land up multiplying into trays and trays of one species. My problem is that I had so many coum and a group of hederifolium that I needed to give an extra year of pampering indoors that it will still be more than I should have. As far as germinating outdoors, I would think that you will not get them to germinate, if at all, till next spring when the temperatures are closer to the 60 degree mark. I thought I read an article written by the owner of Seneca Hill saying they tried to do this without success, but then if you can do it, let us know. You are a brave guy to put your seedlings outdoors, I would be afraid of loosing them and then having to start all over again a year later.

I checked on the progress of my cyclamen seeds, I have some that have germinated on the Hederifolium silver leave/ pink flowers. I ran out of grit, so some of the seeds are on the very top after I had sprayed the grit with water. No clue how the Purpurascens are doing, since I can't see the seeds.

I have some silver leaf c.hederifolium from Tim. The leaves already have the silver color which are different from my c. coum and others that have germinated so far. My c. purpurascens have not germinated yet either Guff, but I think they may take a bit longer to germinate. I can't remember what the time frame was last year.

TerryK, how long has it been since you started the Purpurascens this year? I can't wait for mine to germinate. Next year I will be doing mostly Purpurascens, and maybe a packet of coum. I will have plenty of Hederifolium growing, so I don't think I will be doing any next fall. I think I will wait another couple days, then I will stick my Hederifolium under lights. I noticed alot more, just starting to break out of the seed, and start forming the bulb. I may also start 50 seeds each pink/white well marked this weekend, I didn't get a chance last week.
