Well I got around to trying to finish up my holding bed. It's around 8-9 feet by 4. I didn't have the time to make the beds where I wanted. This will have to do for now. I dug in 30 gallons of compost. The picture shows another 20 gallons of compost, which I will mix sand into. Then I will top layer with sand, so the corms have something nice and dry to sit on top of. After I put in the corms, I will add some gravel or bark, haven't decided which? I think bark would look better. Open for Ideas. I figured it might be the right time to get my seedlings into the ground.

Well it's about to rain here, I may have time to put another bag of sand down. I think I better cover it up with plastic, I don't want the rain to wash away my progress. Sorry for the dark picture, rain clouds over head.

TerryK, yes it was alot of work. This summer has been terrible for me, trying to accomplish things. I will see what I can do about getting your package out, I haven't forgotten. I didn't even get a chance to order any seeds from Seneca Hills. I will be growing 5 daylily seeds of each Bella Sera cross I did instead. I will also do scales and more lily seeds. I have alot of pods growing. Tomorrow if it doesn't rain, I will start putting in my cyclamen seedlings. They will just plop in, hardest part is going to get them out of the pot, and apart. I remember what a hassel it is.

Any ideas on how I should plant my seedlings? I have the pots marked pink or white. Since this is really just a holding bed, I guess I could plant half the bed white and the other half pink, or do you think I should just mix them?

Mix them up, Guff. Keep it looking as natural as you can. If you divide the bed into one half white and one half pink, it could well end up looking like the kind of thing one sees in a public park. Far better to have the bed mixed as they would be in the wild. Just my opinion...

My main concern would be survival of the tubers overwinter. I think I would agree it will look better if mixed. Also if you don't get to move them to another spot you have an instant swath of cyclamen. I can't remember (what else is new!) but you may want to keep coum separate from hederifolium so they don't overtake the coum.

Tim,TerryK thanks. I will mix them. There all hederifolium. They won't be moved until next fall or the following year. I don't have the time to make the beds where I wanted this year.

First picture is what my pots look like. Second picture shows some seedling put in my holding bed. Are these too close? I think they will be ok, for 1 year.

I would think they might be too close Guff but maybe Tim or Tony can give better advise. I found that a few pots of coum which I had not potted up individually the fist year took off when potted up with more space. Also the roots may entwine and then when you do separate them you will land up loosing roots.

guff I agree with Tim they look better and more natural mixed up.As to being too close I think they are okay for a year and see how much growth they put on.I find the hederifolium can be brutes when growing well and can smother everthing in a radius of six inches from the tuber. Not a problem with me this year I think as it looks as though I may have lost quite a few under the hawthorns in the open garden.I expect them to self seed as there is masses of seed lying around and build up again.

Just another thought Guff, if they are that close how will you top off with mulch and not smother them? I would run out of patience working the mulch around the tubers that close! Tony, more lost? At least you have a lot of seed. Who knows what new leaf patterns will come from these new ones.

I only did 2 pots so far. Two pots covered the outer edge of my bed. I have enough room to put more space between the seedlings. I also planted the seedling white then pink, then white, so on. I have 8 more pots to go through.

Your purpurascen look good. Are these the ones that you kept saying "no germination yet"? If you put them under lights, watch them. The first year I had all my luck with them they were not under lights, just the bottom shelf of the room which is bright. Then I put them outdoors in an east facing area but still shaded a bit. They did really well. Purpurascen does well in more shade and moister conditions than others.
