Guff, the lighter colored purpurascens will probably turn a pink color before opening. I believe that happened with mine.

The beds look great and if you took those pictures today, after the winds and rain we had last night, you look like your on the way to success. The winter wind was what I thought might blow the pine needles away but they look good. Now as I drive around and see pine needles, I lust for them. How bad is that!

TerryK, thanks. I agree pine needles are the way to go. Cheap/free, look great, and easy to place/replace. I'm glad I didn't do the gravel.

Those pictures were taken last week. I't looks no different today, after the heavy rains and winds, from the other day.

Whats interesting about the two buds is, the second pictures bud is 1/4 the size of the first picture, yet it was farther ahead in forming. Also the shape seems different. I think it's going to be a light pink, while the other is going to be darker purple/pink.

Guff, it it looks wonderful! So how do you like the scent? To me it is heaven. I can't imagine what it will be like when you have more than one flower open.

And just think, with a bit of luck you'll be on your way to more seed!

TerryK, thanks. I'm surprised at how small the flowers really are. When looking at pictures throughout the forum, they look so big. I guess i'm use to seeing big leaves and flowers on Victoria, and others that I have bought. So when you see these(coum, Purpurascens, ect. pictures) you really can't tell the real size.

I like these smaller plants, they have their own little charm about them.

I was holding off on commenting on the scent. Yesterday and this morning there was no scent. I can now smell it, smells like lily of the valley to me. I think by tonight the scent will be much stronger.

My opinion too. Also, a cooler spot helps one smell the scent. They may be smaller but they do last a long time. Longer than my hederifolium did and the two were in bloom at the same time.

Enjoy!

These 4 Purpurascens seedling were pricked out from the of above tub. There are two or three more seedlings, but I can't get too them. I figure I wait till spring/summer, if seed sets. If no seed sets, I will repot after their done flowering.

Another week or so, I post pictures of the Coum, and Purpurascens seedlings that I started this year. Lots coming up on the Coum.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone

Terryk, the scent is much stronger now. It would make a nice perfume.

I pollinated the above flower with Victoria pollen, it will be interesting to see if it takes or not.

TerryK, crossing is very interesting to me, one never knows........
If it works great, if not oh well.

I have plenty of other crossing projects to keep me busy.

Well I had my post-op doctors visit, no cancer in the tonsils. :)

Purpurascens update. The leaves are getting real nice. The bigger plant has a couple more flower buds forming, it now has 10.

TerryK, the smell is wonderful!

Guff, it's great news about your health issues and the plants must be making this news even better.

Do you plan on keeping them in the pot till after they flower or wait till the seed matures?

I have around 36 germinated Purpurascens seeds so far. I have two tubs like the one pictured. Much better germination, considering I only was able to get 3 to germinate a year ago.

Second picture is an update of my pricked out seeds from my flowering Purpurascens.

Purpurascens update. Not sure if the Victoria pollen took or not. Petals are starting to fall off on my first flower. I only pollinated two flowers with Victoria pollen.

It looks like the bud on the left is getting fat so maybe you will have some success. The leaves look good too.

I have had a bit more success this year with some purpurascens germinating, but so far not what I remember from my first time.

TerryK, I will be watching it closely. The clear "globe shaped", I assume it will fall off as well? Victoria doesn't seem to have that, so I can't compare it.
