Hi Jan- I have to get myself a cold frame. My problem here is that snow is not consistent. Some years, this one especially, it did not snow till February. Of course we had snow towards the end of March. I have had success keeping them downstairs in a cooler, darker portion of the basement.

Jan_bravenboer, I will try that this fall. I will try germinating as I have in the past, then I will prick out the ones that germinate in 1-2 months time. I will then stick the pot outside for the winter and see what happens. Doing this, I will still get my 15-20% germination rate, and have plants to grow inside under lights all winter. How many seeds per pod average do you get with purpurascens?

Cilicium update It's been a battle keeping these growing. I think they have been going dormant on and off all winter long. All the leaves died on all three plants. I am starting to see some growth on the other two plants. Plant pictured has alot of flower buds, hopefully I can keep it growing and see it flower.

Guff, I know it is going to kill you to take the buds off but Tim recommended it to me last year. The reason being the tuber is using up lots of energy trying to get the flowers growing at the expense of the tuber. I pulled mine off and they did bloom nicely this year.

TerryK, I took a closer look, and there are 5 leaves starting to grow as well. Heres a picture from today. Only 24 hrs or so difference from yesterdays picture, and those buds are plumping up. It seems happy for now, but warm weather coming who knows. I'm going to plant them outside in the fall, too hard to keep growing indoors, for me anyways.

Netting doesn't look pretty, but it keeps them safe.

So exciting, maybe it would look a bit better if is was topped off with a bit more soil or gravel?

Cilicium flowers opened today. The flowers are very small compared to Purpurascens. No scent yet, maybe tomorrow.

Maybe the day was too warm to get the scent-Tim has them listed and says they are honey scented. I have not had flowers yet.

Is that one plant in the pot shown in the first photo Guff? You really must be enjoying those purpurascens! Looks like you have a magic touch with them.

Starting to see growth in my holding beds. I can see 3 buds on this plant so far. Can't wait to see one open.
First sight of a leaf in the holding bed.

TerryK, another 2-4 weeks I may have some open flowers. I had checked the outer edges of the beds, by moving away the pine needles. I can see lots of buds forming.
