That's wonderful news. You seem to have mastered outdoor cyclamen growth. Is that the netting? Has it worked well for you Guff?

TerryK, yes the netting does keep out the squirrels. When I replant next summer or the year after, I'm going to have to use gravel/small stones as a top cover, then cover with pine needles. I will also use the deer netting either under or ontop of the gravel. That should limit the digging. I would be happy with 100+ flowers from both beds, and hopefully some seed for next year. I didn't order any seed, since Seneca Hill isn't selling any. Guess I will be growing daylily and lily seeds this winter.

Did you check out gardensnorth.com? The owner is very nice and her selection of seed is fantastic. Jan also sells his seed, http://www.bravenboer.tk/

My very first hederifolium flowers, mission accomplished! Next is coum, but I'm not too sure about them, very slow growing for me. I think I will stick to purpurascens and hederifolium. TerryK, I'm tempted to order some purpurascens seed.

TerryK, speaking of scent, doesn't some hederifolium have a scent? I have seen seed and plants listed as scented hederifolium. Not sure but I think they are pink. I can't get close enough to smell, so maybe in another week or two some on outer edge will be open.

Guff lots of the cyclamen have scent, some more pleasant than others.I have a poor sense of smell and have never experienced it out of doors. In the enclosed space of a greenhouse or more particularly when opening a frame on a warm day the scent can be quite strong.Hederifolium certainly has a very nice scent as does graecum.

Tony_willis, are some hederifolium more stronger scented, and that is why they are labeled as scented? Another flower opened, this one is white, with pinkish markings. This one I will be able to get close enough to smell, I will wait a day or two.

Guff, I have some scented C. hederifolium, however the fragrance is not every year the same. Sometimes no fragrance or less, sometimes a huge scent. C. hederifolium var. confusum is the best, most of them have a great scent. In spring we found some C. coum with a hugh scent, as strong as C. purpurascens. As soon as seedlings will flower we know if they are true to the mother plant. Regards, Jan

Berthold as Jan says it varies with different plants and different times of the season and I think it needs a nice sunny day.I went to the frame with my hederifolium in today and it was very good.As were the graecum. On a dull day nothing. In the garden there is no hope of getting the scent

This one is pure white, without any markings, must be alba.
I took pollen from the white, with pink markings, and put it on the pink form. The pollen was yellow. I then took pollen from the pink form and put it on the pure white, the pollen was white. Interesting, any ideas about the color difference in the pollen? Is the yellow pollen any good? I know purpurascens pollen is the same color white.

Are all those white marks in photo 5 little buds? If so, I am green with envy! Even so I am green with envy, you look like your on your way to a sea of cyclamen in your bed just like that photo you posted a few years back. Great job!

TerryK,thanks, I'm pretty happy, next year they should really put on a show. I have 14 flowers opened right now. Lots of buds just popping up through the needles. Photo 5 is just from the netting(shine). Theres only two flowers, one is just opening. I find it interesting as the days go by the petals get bigger. The white flower in the first picture is huge compared to the pinkish ones. I have one flower that is pollinated, the globe/petals fell off, and is starting to curl down.

Lucky you flowers and seeds forming. I actually must have missed a purpurascens in bloom and it's got seed forming. Of course I will probably miss collecting them in time. My schedule this fall is busy, busy with a home improvement project.

TerryK, considering my first attempt didn't go so good 3/40ish that didn't rot and die.....and I dreaded the thought of trying again. I'm very happy. Are you seeing growth in your bed? Or don't you have hederifolium planted outside? I know in an above post you said coum bed? I'm getting some hederifolium 'Rosenteppich' and hederifolium 'Ruby Strain' seeds from Jan Bravenboer.

It started out as a hederifolium bed they didn't make it. I put in coum, don't think they made it either. Outdoor gardens are on hold till the bathroom project gets done.

Jan, received seeds yesterday, thanks. Soaked over night and potted them up today. Thought I would try not using any top grit this year. Last year I had it too thick, and ran into problems. I did mix sand into the top layer.
