I | would like perennials but also would like some annuals also. If you have any good ideal feel free to share them with me. I would like to see this bed as a knock out.

Well Straight_arrow being a z5 Ohio myself and gardening in clay soil ,amending is a must ! If you don't compost ,then go by bagged compost ,good quailty too and either till it in or like me use a good old shovel. I compost ,so I top dress every year so the area's I do plant the soil is almost perfect for planting. With a south facing bed your options are almost endless . A good option to look at in perennials is maybe some drought tolerant , You know Ohio summers can not be real hot but very humid. You can go with ornamental grasses, coneflowers, dasies, flowering shrubs, roses, sages, annuals such as cannas, glads, zinnia's,all kinds of petunias, all kinds id merigolds, use can use sweet potatoe vines as a annual ground cover and they come in many different varities. If your in the columbus are or don't mind a drive ther's 3 plant sales gong on this weekend. One at the franklin park conservatory, one at gantz park farm house{grove city} and on the OSU campus chadwick arborutum. ...Mike
