Hey, Joni. It all looks wonderful. You know, I love all the white accents you have there. I think the white little border, the white plant stand, and even the shudders make all the plantings look that much more romantic. And very clever to have that wire mannequin thingey out there. Tres hip. I'm also laughing b/c I saw the beginning of your thread and realized my first Gardenbuddy posting was busting in on your thread. I thought all posts on before/after beds should be in your thread. Whatever. A belated sorry. I can't wait to see what you've done with that other bed of your's - the one that's surrounded by fence - one of your earlier posts.

Joni, it is really looking good and I like the accessories as well! That wire planter between the windows looks like it belongs there.

Hi Joni, Isn't it fun to start a new bed! Have you considered hydrangeas? They can take and even thrive in some pretty serious shade..but would require quite a bit of watering in your heat. I can see a large pink or blue one really lighting up that far right area. Another thing that comes to mind, but not sure how it would do in your winters...hardy fuchsia. Of course..you should have room for at least a couple of hostas. Something with a strong white variegation would be nice.

actually, what i am doing....is that my city nursery, which is jammed pack full of plants....but none of our choices, hydrangeas, hosta etc....but they are having a HUGE sale....all 6 inch perennials for 1.00; 4 inch pots .60 cents....so i am filling up my beds....now granted they aren't what i would normally choose as i said, but for that price, i think i can live with what choices they have and gradually add, change etc.... i also have the adjoining bed that i am kinda mimicing with reference to design....so that is another contraint i have... so i went to the nursery, made a huge list of what they had...what plants needed what type of light, care etc...and am having to do it based on some specific limitations so here is what is in this bed as small perennials (used teeny templates, cause i will end up jamming the bed full) but i wanted to be realistic right now...: 1.lavendar mums(only area of my yard i could have mums and i must have mums) 2.glossy abelia (very hardy here and i want it to grow thru my fence to soften it) 3. shasta daisies a hardy perennial that will grow with some shade.....remember i am almost full shade in my yard 4. ornamental grass i bought 4 doz caladiums(already grown for 1.00 6 inch pots) as i can use them somewhere in my yard....but i am researching as to how many hours a day max of sun they can stand besides that there are some other wierd perennials that are almost annuals here...so i SO have alot of constraints.....money being #1

That does give it some oomph! Sounds like you got some bargains. The great thing about gardening is that you can fill it with things now and change later. Plus you might try some sale things that end up being favorites. I have a habit of buying forlorn looking perennials that have been marked down. I feel as though I am saving them from a terrible fate (the dumpster!). Most come back to reward me. This goes against the advice to buy the healthiest plant you can find..but it works when you are low on money

well these at this nursery are in great shape....very lush and well grown...there are only 1800 people in my small town so not alot of traffic in the nursery....except me...i go everyday to see if i can see something else i might need to research or need for my yard.... now all i have to do is find a tree that looks like the above and that only needs 3 hours of sun a day to live.....hmmmmmmm

Looks good Joni. You've chosen some plants that provide a little white highlight in the shade. Even in the darkest part I can still see it shimmer. Are those white things in the grass stepping stones?

Joni, It looks like you have worked hard and found some good bargains. Me, I was lucky to get two 25 cent packages of Wildflower seed this summer. I have one flower bed in the back yard and no way at this point in time to take pics and upload them. It is nice to be able to look at everyone else's gardens though. I save seed out of veggies from the store and have a small delicata squash bed and some pepper and tomato plants. I'm looking forward to seeing more pics of your beds and borders. Beverly-- Zone 3?
