Hubby and I put in a new flower bed for my parents on our recent trip to Louisiana. I couldn't believe I found enough bricks (about 40) just laying around in their yard to finish the edging for it. We had begun the project earlier in the year with a side bed, and I wanted to bring the bricks all the way around to the back. We took a trip to a local nursery and got some great half price deals to fill the part-shade bed. The soil has a high clay content, so hopefully things will survive. Not exactly a professional job, but looks tons better than the weedy mess that was there before. It had been a bed years ago, but not maintained. I could kick myself for not getting a before pic, but just imagine blank wall.
This is the part around the corner that we did at Christmas - still needs plants to fill in
And a little island bed we did at Christmas as well. This was a little round circle that we made into more of a kidney shape and sunk the bricks that were previously just stacked.
Never mind all the junk and wires and hoses!! hehe My dad is what I like to refer to as a Sanford and Son gardener. He has more solar garden lights than should be legally allowed!

I Love it!!! I need to show my hubby this. I got some bricks from my mom to do the same and he wasn't too thrilled with the idea. Now there's proof of how nice it looks! Thanks for posting these!!!

The pretty, curved lines reminds me of your beautiful border, Suzy! How nice of your and your hubby to do that for them :)

What a great job Suzy. I love edging in bricks and have done it on a lot of my own beds. It looks so 'clean' and really helps with grass edging.

Thanks everyone! Because we were doing gardening work it helped me not miss working in mine as much. Hubby is a "doer" and we were there almost 2 weeks, so he needed a project too. It was my parent's 52nd wedding anniversary on May 29th, so it was kind of a present for them as well. There are so many projects just waiting to be done there, so I will be sure to post another installment when we go back for our next visit..probably not till the fall or maybe Christmas. My dad has an old clawfoot bathtub that he has wanted to make into a pond of sorts for years and it just sits there..empty (occasionally used to store misc junk) in the back yard. I really want to help him do something with it..for his sake and my mom's!! She hates seeing it sit there with no purpose. Any ideas (or pics) for putting it to use would be greatly appreciated.

What a gift Suzy. I am sure your parents will appreciate the enjoyment they receive from your hard work and thoughtful planning. I smiled about the solar lights. I see many gardens in this area that have gone over the top. Noma lights every 8 inches along pathways, some on a tilt. I always have this urge when passing by to set them upright :).

Too funny. Dad's are obviously all askance too. Pointing this way and that. Drives DH slightly crazy. I am use to it and probably have more than a little bit of my Dad in me. What you probably can't see in the photo is that he not only has them all over the place in the ground, but he also has some stuck like antennas on top of the trellises. He's a cutie, my dad....
