TIGHT BUDGET! Here is a project some family members hired me to do. It was for a home they bought to fix up & re-sell. They gave me a certain amount to spend, including labor. (They have no idea how much plants cost!) I needed something that would be at least somewhat drought tolerant, so if there wasn't enough rain, they would be ok for the next few weeks/months while the house is up for sale. I told them they would have to water them, but do they listen to me??!! The realtor who they were listing the house with suggested putting 1 plant (only) of some sort in the far corner (or leaving 1 of the 3 that were in there. There were 2 four o'clocks and a rose bush smothered in between them). As you can see, I disagreed with the realtor & put in a few things, including: liriope (green & variegated), spirea, ornamental grass & an urn with various flowers. I moved the (smothered) rose bush from the front bed to back at the end of the driveway by the garage door, where there were 2 other roses. I also cleaned up the 2 areas around those existing roses. I put together 5 other large planters with mums & pansies to set around in various places (I don't have the pics of those yet) and also the 1 planter in the last picture which has begonias, spikes, pansies & vinca. Sorry, I didn't get a very clear picture on the last one.

Looks great just getting cleaned up and your plant additions are very nice too! What a fun project for you. I'd love to be asked to do something like this. I watch a lot of those "Flip This House" types of shoes and I am always wanting to see what they do with the yards. Great Job!

Too much paperwork in adopting. lol. I don't think you have to go that far-- I have done some landscaping for friends also
Thank you. I do love doing small projects like this one. Especially when the weeds are so overgrown it makes the before & after look much better! lol. I have had quite a few people ask me to do landscaping. It is just hard to find the time in between the full-time job & everything else (ahhh, life!). Since moving out from home a few years ago, I do not have cable TV so I miss out on all the good garden shows. I have heard of "Flip This House", but have never seen it. Hopefully I will have time to find some pics of my other landscaping before & afters and post them soon. (It is difficult to keep track of all the pics I have on 2 computers & drives)

You did a very nice job on this,Lisa. I just completed landscaping a small area for my sister and it was lots of fun. Besides....nice to spend someone else's money on plants for a change!

"I watch a lot of those "Flip This House" types of shoes and I am always wanting to see what they do with the yards." They flipped a house near me...the yard looked terrible! Didn't really do much to it...the sod was on a pallet in the front yard for 3+ weeks. When the grass finally grew...it was full of weeds. BTW great job on the yard!

Thank you all for your comments :)
I thought about trying to find local houses people are flipping & bidding on doing the landscaping. I too, had someone "flip" a house just this past year by where I live . The house looked great, but the yard looked awful. They finally bought some plants (about 5 total is all!) and left them sit in the containers for 2-3 weeks (untouched) before they put them in the ground. Needless to say, the new buyers are redoing the landscaping!

You have worked wonders! Well done. People underestimate the value of a cared for garden when it comes to selling.
I can certainly relate to that! It always amazes me how much is spent on the interior and then they expect you to create a wonderful garden for peanuts.

Some of you might remember this thread from last year. My family members (who flipped this house) still have not sold it. Unfortunately, they did not take care of the landscaping I put in for them last year and so I was asked to redo it again this year. They had let the grass/weeds get too tall and out of control. It looks like whoever (probably my lazy brothers) they had cut them down just used a weed-eater. They also proceeded to weed-wack the liriope and spirea . I was able bring 3 liriope and what was left of the spirea home to try to nurture back to life--I'm keeping my fingers crossed they survive...so far so good. Here are a couple after pics from the makeover this time. I was on a tight budget (again) so I did minimal & unfortunately for me, free labor .
Instead of planting mums in the containers, this year I did dwarf arborvitae for year-round color and put red lava rock around them for some more color/contrast:

You brought it back to good! Looks great - I think people don't realize how much work it takes to put even a small garden in. They think you just dig a hole and plop a plant in. $10.00 to spend - $9.00 on soil, $1.00 on plants...doesn't leave much for the poor worker!!
