I might as well share my newest addition to the garden before it's finished and slowly fill you in on the progress as the work continues. It all began with ideas probably two years ago now and began taking shape once we completed the shed. I sketched out the final design this winter and began work or rather gathering rocks at first early this spring. Finally I’m at the planting stage... ...finished digging the first area
...layed out the first load of flagstone for the path
...now the second plating area is done and we brought more rocks for the path
...another view towards the shed. This new area is going to be connected to an existing border. The plan is to have climbing roses and clematis on the arch and more clematis on the trellis.
...finally began planting

It is so exciting to see a work in progress like this. You have done so much and now you have a great place for planting. Are you planning to plant something special between the flagstones? P.S. Nice Arbor...it's just like the one I got married under!

That's what I thought yesterday when I saw your post of the arbor...what a wonderful coincidence. I know I enjoy seeing other's work and accomplishments in the garden. Looking at pretty flowers is nice but seeing the 'bigger picture' is enjoyable as well.

...you have no idea...especially the little one. He wants to dig holes where I do and wants to get into the middle of the borders like I do, trampling flowers as he goes. I will not get into the wars we have over the watering hose...

A fond memory of mine was this: Mother gave me a pail of water and a large paintbrush and I could paint all over the sidewalk! I loved it. Looking at the toys kids have now, this must seem pretty feeble, but I thought it was great.

The last picture shows where I'm at right now. I couldn't do anything the past weekend because it was too windy. Currently the green shrub you see is a Burning Bush and the other bigger tree is a Japanese Red Maple. Both were moved from the side of the house. We have a basement leak that needs fixing so I have to move things elsewhere. There's also a climbing Zephirine Drouhin rose by the arbor. I should get more things planted this week.

What a wonderful job you have done. I love the shape you made the garden and the way you added the flagstones and arbor. Now there is more room for clematis. I can't wait to see it with flowers blooming. I am also putting in a huge garden this year with a path and arbor only my husband is building the arbor out of cedar. I love the Japanese Red maple. Those are so nice but incredibly expensive also.

I used to do this with my kids, too. They loved it and would spend quite a bit of time "painting" the deck and any furniture they could find!

Wow, Thanks for the step by step plans, I really enjoy seeing all the ground work too! Great job! Country Lady, if you could find seedling Japanese Red Maples, they are not as expensive as the cultivars, but just as pretty! Kit}

Finally got the area planted, almost. One more climbing rose is waiting to go in by the trellis. The flag stone path is still unfinished and probably will not be completed until next year...the result of too many projects at once :)
