I know it can be a problem.. but try and try again.. I have 'Found a Solution'! I placed a mixed variety of Compost, Peat Moss and just Regular Garden Dirt under my 'Colorado Blue Spruce'.. and Seeded 'Dianthus' and after 3 years.. it is 'Spreading like Crazy'.. may not be the most 'Attractive Plant'.. but it "Is Growing" and makes my Dirt under the Spruce look much Better!

Sorry Charl.. I was having trouble sizing the pic's so they would upload.. Here's a lil better shot.. and the Peony is Blooming Too! He's just a volunteer.. not sure where he came from.. found him under the Juniper 3yrs ago when I trimmed it back.. so just left him.. Glad I did now!

Cute! Love the rocks. You could probably also add some shade annuals like begonia and such. Pretty peony!

Peonies!! I have them all over my yard! Too bad they dont last longer.. I have another 'volunteer' under an Austrian Pine.. blooms late July(Big White 10" flowers on him..and thats my dog 'Kodi's Best Side.. or so he thinks!..along with more Dianthus!) Along the fence is teaming with them..along with Kodi crushing my Oriental Poppies.. Will add a pic of the Big White Ones when they Bloom..

I think peonies are probably the most beautiful flower in the world. I've heard they do very well under pine trees, Yours are lovely, Jerry.
