This is my Terrace in July 2007. There’re still lots of plants that I would like to grow, but it’s already out of place.

It looks as though you have several herbs growing there. Is there actually any room for you to sit on your terrace?

What fun to have so many beauties to look at. You could put a verticle structure in one of your pots and grow a clematis going up in the air on it.

This is a real color splash, Han. Is that your Veronica and arbor in the background? If it is your arbor, what are you growing on it?

That looks great! Does seem like you do have a place for a couple of vines against the wall!

Wow, that really shows how well some perennials do in pots! Beautiful!

Thanks for those compliments and suggestions. I grow Ivy and Campsis x tagliabuana on my arbor. One is evergreen, the other blooms and I hope they can cover each other through the seasons and won’t feel too pack in a 40 cm diameter stone ring. Below my terrace is my garage, so the plants on the ground have only 20 cm soil.

My next plan is to cover the glass partition by growing two tree peonies in two 50 cm diameter pots (I already have one) and cover the brick wall with alcea ficifolias. To gain more space I grow strawberries in hanging baskets and try to reduce the quantity of herbs.

My selection my plant is also base on what my neighbour has. I try not to grow the same as hers. Now I still have enough room for 3 people to sit (maximum 4 if I move away some small pots). So I can’t have big project anymore, but I still enjoy some fine tune-ups .

I wonder....
When I lived in town and had only a small balcony to garden on, I added more planting space by hanging boxes outside the railing. I wonder if you could do that too?

Yes! A row of hanging boxes with hanging pelargonium would be ideal. But my cellar has no space for more pelargonium in winter. Till now I over winter 12 long flower boxes, few pots and two containers of pelargonium there.

Another Idea is to grow Clematis Montana on the railing, but it’d block the sunlight away from Pelargonium below.

Now I prefer to grow more perennials, so that I don’t need to over winter them indoor. I’ve space problem outdoor in summer and indoor in winter.

How about annuals? Nasturtium?
Or.... Clematis repens! I think you could overwinter them on the terrace.

Thanks for your suggestions, Mara. In fact I don’t intend to grow anything on my railings, because my neighbour does. Besides, it makes her terrace look crowded and messy, although she has fewer plants than I have. So I can avoid myself being a copy cat and she can also keep her copy right.

That is absolutely gorgeous, the colors really pop, and the greenery is very lush. How beautiful! You should get some sort of an award for that.
