these are some natural hybrids between the yellow vulgaris and the pink sibthorpii. In the picture with many flowers the plant has flowers in two colours. This is how they appear and they do not fade from one shade to another. They occur where the two forms meet in N. Turkey and come true from seed

How wonderful to have two different flowers on one plant. Do you know if this is grown in gardens?

This is my own collection of seed from when I was in Turkey and they are not in general cultivation I know that the Almonds from Scotland have also found them because there is a picture on the primula world website.

What beautiful colors! Tony, is there anything you don't grow or have not collected in your travels?

They should be. From your photos, I think it has even more charm than either of its parents.

hi Terry
having read your profile I have probably been gardening 40+ years ahead of you and have much easier conditions.
I grow a little of a lot and my main interest is in bulbs and woodland plants which flower in the spring and autumn although I also think that anything that grows I will like it.You have been spared the other half of the partnership so far as the boss does not use the computer. She grows perennials and shrubs and so when mine go dormant my summer is spent looking after these with occasional direction. We are blessed here with a mild climate that is perfect for these plants. We try and pick plants that will grow with us.

Here's one of your own from Colorado
Primula angustifolia

Beautiful primrose's Tony, I find sibthorpii very interesting.

I have tried to reference sibthorpii and come up with mixed results, P.abchasica = P. vulgaris ssp. sibthorpii, P. sibthorpii, collection Hoffmannsegg 1824 taxa sample destroyed? and I guess from my reference of 1986, P. vulgaris ssp. sibthorpii, W.W. Smith & Forrest is the excepted valid taxa.

Not that the above is of great importance, but is helpful for anyone trying to understand this beautiful Pimula species. This appears to be a very rare species in cultivation, I doubt if you could find this species in cultivation in the USA, though sibthorpii should be hardy and not too difficult.

Very interesting primrose, regardless of the confusing taxa and fully fertile with vulgaris.

hi Bruce
I am sure that sibthorpii is only really a form of vulgaris.I have read a lot about the length of the leaf stalks, the hairs on the leaves etc but to my untrained eye they all appear much the same.In the South of Turkey near Syria they are white. In Greece They are white except that I once found a very nice pink one.Near home just up the road we have all yellow ones. They all seem fantastic in their simple flowers to me,they are just starting to flower in the garden with us.Here are pin and thrum forms from Greece.

Tony your last photo is very striking, the white flowers against the dark background. The foliage is nice looking too.
