I think I found a new hobby. Two kinds of Japanese Primula Sieboldii and Unnan Sakurasoh "Ai Xiang Shui"(very fragrant, soft pink,42 cm.tall).
I hope they set a few seeds.

They have been on my list of things to find. I will probably have to order them. What a beautiful selection you found.

Malgorzata do you have a source for seed? I love these Primulas and would be really interested in being able to purchase seed. I know getting plants is more difficult here but I did have success getting some to germinate last year.

These look so lovely presented together: the violet colour reflected in the white ones as well. I wish more of them were available here!

Everyone, THANK YOU! Terryk, no luck yet. Looking around. Check this one out: http://www.alpine-plants-jp.com/ They seem to have some seeds so may be writing them a mail would be a good idea. I am still trying to figure them out. Then, have you seen these? http://www.sakurasou.jp/English1.htm http://homepage3.nifty.com/plantsandjapan/page048.html Finally, Primula sieboldii in today's rain:

Thank you Malgorzata, I will have to investigate those web sites further. I had been a member of The American Sakurasoh Association which is here in the US but unfortunately, this organization is not in existence. I had been sent seed last year and some small buds too. I would have joined again as I would love to have a large collection (that seems to be what I always want). I found one website here and ordered seed from them, but thought I would get a better selection from a nursery/seed seller in Japan.

Thank you all. These little flowers are really very charming. Here are my two new plants of Primula sieboldii.
Primula Sieboldii "Uchuu" = 'Universe'/'Outer Space'
Primula sieboldii "Yubi-no-sugata" ='Pretty Looking'(?) I have been trying to look for seeds Terryk and I have a sad news for you. Primula sieboldii is grown only by division. My little Japanese book on Sakura sieboldii has 350 named cultivars (in Edo period there were about 500). For interested (all in Japanese): http://www1.odn.ne.jp/alm/sakuraso/index01.htm (many pictures)

Great web site! Thanks. One of the prettiest primulas by far. It was Bruce on these pages who got me interested.

The Japanese seem to have a genius for getting the most beauty and diversity out of small plants. Maybe because of their small gardens and restricted space? Hepatica, Saxifraga fortunei, and now these! Are these primulas always kept in pots? Wait till you see Bruce's. They spread far and wide in his garden.

Malgorzata that is very interesting that they are not grown from seed there. I was lucky enough to get at least one round of seed from The American Sakurasoh Association before they were no longer active. Hopefully they will start to grow this year and I can get them into the garden. I wonder if they could also be propagated by leaf cuttings?
