i think the bit of warm weather has moved things on in only a week. There were none of these at the two shows I visited the week before. The pictures are very nice indeed.

I knew these would make your mouth water! I see you live in Japan Malgorzata - how wonderful. You should have no problem getting sieboldii there. Do post some pictures if you can please. If I had a glasshouse.....

They're all beautiful. It would be wonderful to be able to grow these. My favourite is marginata 'Kesselring'.

Sometimes I think my garden should be full of just one thing. I suppose it would take the challenge out of keeping the garden blooming all season. But wouldn't April be fabulous if the garden was all dressed up in primulas.

I have a marginata growing outdoors in my stone trough just about to flower. They are hardy enough.

Ann, what sort of substrate do you grow it in? Do you have to keep it dry during the winter?

Mara it is in a stone sink about 12 inches deep. Just ordinary potting compost with some fine grit added and a layer of grit over the surface. I haven't watered it all all during the winter but that's because we've had plenty of rain. I think as long as the foliage doesn't sit in wet conditions it'll be fine. This is how mine looked yesterday.

Ann, it certainly looks very good! You've convinced me, I'll give them a try - especially since I know a good German source for many varieties, including Kesselring

Wow, Ann...what a wonderful display of these beauties! I like the little yellow w/white edges 'no-name' one especially but I think they'd be pretty in a mixed planting...particularly with Kesselring. It's the 7th one down. I seem to favor the frosty looking leaves.

Yes that farina on the leaves is the main attraction. It is present on many primulas and on the flowers such as auricula types. I'm going to buy lots more primulas this year!
