Johanna is as hardy as they come - we've had several spells of frost and these primulas have all taken it in their stride. If you are looking for Johanna my book says it's a hybrid known as P clarkei (P x Johanna)and it was a result of hand pollination onto primula warshenewskiana. It resembles primula rosea which might be easier to obtain.

They are ALL charming! I really like Primula bileckii with the magenta colored flower. The tight rosette type foliage almost reminds me of succulents.

I actually grew from seed this year Primrose acaulis, "Danova Pink". It germinated via the Wintersowing method. It hasn't bloomed yet, but here is what the foliage looks like.

You've got me almost hooked on the marginatas. Just have to figure out a place to grow them, then the order goes out...

By the way, Primula rosea is a bog plant, mine grows along the edge of the pond. Looks like this

I used to have rosea but had it in a raised bed and lost it - obviously too dry a spot. Thanks Mara!

Mara, you DO have some of the most interesting plants! Is that PR considered hardy? In a week or so I'm going to an large Alpine nursery (can hardly wait!) so I must get all these names written down.

Tanya, P. rosea is not at all an unusual plant. Here it is sold in garden centres. It is hardy here.
