This season winter has been unusual almost everywhere, including the part of the world I happen to live. For some days already I have my Primulas in full bloom. No, I do not complain! Just wanted to share!
Primula filchnerae
P.filchnerae (from seed)
Primula malacoides (from seed)
Primula praenitens, one of my favorite (from seed).

Wonderful, I love them. Were they difficult to germinate? By the way Malgorzata, the pots with the Saxifraga Fortunei are showing signs of life! I will try to post when the seedlings are bigger.

Positively drooling over all of these. Fantastic that you've grown them from seed, too! Primula malacoides is sold in every other supermarket here right now. I bought a few a couple of years ago, but I never thought of trying to save and sow seed. Thanks for the great idea!

Thank you ladies! Spring has come!! Feels great! Terry, I think they are easy to germinate...they were for me. I bought one plant each last season and it was my first try. Mostly I used "self seeding method" (dropping some seeds around the mother plant and making sure the area was not disturbed). I tried fall sowing with a few seeds of P.praenitens. The seeds germinated in about 10 days. I am so glad you have some germination from that "dust" I had sent you! Mara, anything is worth trying to grow from seeds as long as you like the plant. It is so much more fun than buying in the nursery! Friends always seem to welcome the surplus.

Just to show you how easy Primula filchnerae germinates...
Self seedlings on July 21 that germinated around mother plant (gone with the first summer heat). I have some seeds left but not kept in the refrigerator (viable?)...if someone is interested to try their luck please e-mail me just the address and I will send your way a few seeds.

Thanks, Ann! Soon I will have to worry what to do with all those seedlings...last year there were just a few...those few produced hundreds!
