I have been given a few seeds of many unusual Primula species, and have heard that germination results can be greatly improved by the use of GA3 - Gibberellic Acid (soaking the seeds in a waek solution). However, it is almost impossible to obtan in the UK, although I belive it is widely available in the USA, does anyone use it, and could anyone obtain some for me, I would happily reimburse cost and postage. I only need a tiny amount - about a teaspoonfull. Thanks all.

Have you tried google? It is sold as a powder and there are sources on the Web. You only need 1 gram. You dissolve it in pure alcohol (approx 30-50 ml) then dilute that with 1/2 litre warm distilled water. (I just read up on this in another forum.) They also recommend you freeze the amount you don't immediately need, as it doesn't keep very long in liquid form.

Dawn I am amazed that you have been told to use that method for primulas. If the seed is good it should germinate with very little problems. You do not mention the species but for most gentle warmth and light are usually sufficient

Hi Tony, The seed isn't the freshest, which is my reason for wanting to try GA3 - it is after all a naturally occuring plant hormone, and recomended by several sites I have found - I just thought it would be worth a try as an experiment.
