I have borrowed this thread from the Clematis forum..regarding the saying SLEEP.... CREEP.... LEEP.
This is specially relevant to some Bamboos.
You plant them and nothing happens for ages, then second year some growth and you think great, after that it sends shoots EVERYWHERE and WOW offshoots for all your friends. This is a pic.of my Pseudosasa Japonica which was a small plant five years ago..It's hardy down to at least -10 here in England.
And by the way I don't want to be controversial but I love the Dixie Chicks...

A beauty! I'm jealous of anyone able to grow more than the 3 that are hardy to me!

Where did the Dixie Chicks comment come from? Ugh.

I potted all of my bamboo because it was getting harder and harder to keep it contained from going into my neighbor's yard (even with a barrier!), but it never grew in the pots really. So I took the one that was still green and put it in the ground in a place that I can contain it better. I'm glad to see someone could get it to grow in a pot! :)

Aliciac, did you keep the Aarow fairly shaded? mine did not like any hint of direct sunlight. How long have or were they in planters? Some take a good year to settle in...then they take off.

I briefly entertained thoughts of planting clumping bamboo to provide some screening, but decided against it for various reasons. Clumping is the only type I'd use for my small city lot.

I love the Chicks too. Their last album is probably their best to date.
