I have a few good perenials right now that are performing well. They are the salvia may night and also russian sage. I am looking to add something yellow or light pink that will flower for a long time and is no taller then 24'. Rudebeckia's come to mind but do they last year to year? I was also wondering about coneflowers. I am in northeast PA.

In fact, there are annual and perennial rudbeckias, so it depends which you are talking about... There are lots of perennials that thrive in clay soils. We have a nursery, here in France, which specialized in this type of plants. Of course, the site is in French, but maybe you could check the names and find plants that would be adapted to your garden there? Browse through plants for shade ("ombre"), half-shade ("mi-ombre") and full sun ("soleil") http://www.plante-vivace.com/index1.html Hope it helps!
