I can appreciate why this is a new love...what a beauty! Can I ask about the huge bloom over your shoulder in your profile pic? It is a stunner! Please tell me about it. I apologize if you have already done so and I missed it.

They are stunning Malgorzata. I have none of the Japanese saxifrages, but perhaps it is only a matter of time now. :-) Very nice.

Thank you ladies and gentlemen for your kind comments! Saxifraga fortunei is a tiny but such a perfect and pretty flower. Mara, look what I found! http://www.rakuten.co.jp/gardensk/430279/430283/441441/ My plants are named hybrids and they look like propagated by division but I am watching closely if they set seeds. Does anybody know about propagating Saxifraga fortunei from seed? Carolyn, it is Clematis "Viola". I was in love with it last year!

Mara has over the years posted her pictures of these beauties too. Believe it or not I have yet to order mine. Each time at this year I kick myself for not having placed an order. It is difficult to find them here, Roslyn Nursery in NY has some but they stopped shipping earlier this year. Hopefully they will reopen in the spring (talk of closing the business after many years) I tried another type SAXIFRAGA virginiensis, it is a warm germinator. I did get it to germinate, but not many. Somehow I lost the pot! Not sure of this one. Maybe you could propagate via leaf cutting? If it does set seed, and you have an abundance I would love any extras.

Unbelievable! And to think: you could order them! There's a white one near the bottom that looks like it's double. I've never seen that before! I'll post a photo of my newest, 'Aya', as soon as I remember to take it... But it can't compare to some of the ones at that site.

I think they are so lovely and how I would love to grow them here. My hardiness zone might present a problem :(

Mara, your Aya is very pretty! Thanks for getting out there in rain for us! I bought "Moe" thinking it was double white. The color is more lime green but still very interesting. I just love the detail of Saxifraga fortunei's tiny (about 1cm?) blooms.
Terry, if I only have three seeds you get one!

Moe is beautiful!!! I like green flowers - and double green is doubly good. I've decided to consider myself lucky that I can't buy these super special cultivars. I'd be broke by now, if they were offered here... And enjoying yours is free. Terry, have you considered growing the species S. fortunei? It is easy, reliable and puts on a good show each autumn.

Malgorzata, thank you. That is a generous offer to share even if you only have three seeds! Yes, Mara, I think that is the one that is offered by Roslyn Nursery. I have to research more to see if any one else offers them just in case they don't re-open next year.

Just a few new shots...nothing artistic but I hoped to show you how double "Moe" is doing.
And something else...Saxifraga is often sold like this: bare soil specifically cut in shallow pot and I was told I should replant it not now but in March.

How strange to have the soil unprotected by a pot. Presumably they know what they're doing, but I wonder how it will fare in the winter with the cold and wet working to loosen the soil.

Thank you Tammy! :-) Mara, I can not keep the plants watered enough in this form. I won't disturb the roots but I must plant it "normally" in the pot. Japanese gardeners know something what I don't know so till I discover that I have to improvise. Much to learn! But love the plants!

Sigh....I could become an addict - easily. I love the whites in particular as many of you can guess. My one and only saxifrage lives indoors over the winter and has never bloomed.

Thanks for the pictures. I've always wanted these, too, and someday may take the plunge, though there are hardiness issues here. Not that it's stopped me before.
