This is a gentian collected by my friend Dieter Zschummel who lives in Germany. It is from China and he thinks it is related to or is Gentiana depressa. This is the first time it has flowered for me.It is about 1 inch high and across.

Very interesting Tony. Is it growing in the garden or a trough?

A few bits of info. The reason why I am pleased is because it is not supposed to be hardy and at first I grew it in a pan in the grenhouse. It just got leggy and did not flower which was a waste of space, so last year I planted it in my raised bed which is pure grit and it has survived and now flowered. It is a Cambridge blue which is typical of this group. The pictures are true colour.

For color comparison, here's mine. I love blue...yours and mine! Light situations, of course, can make a difference too. This was taken when the sun wasn't shining directly on it.

That's really beautiful. The plant looks like a sedum. Do you know if it's in that family?

hi Gloria no it is in gentiancae which is a huge family. In Europe we have great herbaceous yellow ones six feet high down to tiny blue ones such as verna, whilst in South America many are red. This is an asian one and there are quite a number in this group which have these very reduced rosettes. They are just green leaves and atre not a bit sedum like to touch
