it prefers moist soils. This particular clump is growing in the 'hell strip' of a friends garden. This salvia, along with 'Black and Blue', is a favorite of mine.

Is that uliginosa? I planted it for the first time this spring and it jumped right to the top of my favourites list. Such a beautiful pure blue - and long-flowering. Do you have any other culture suggestions apart from moisture? How about hardiness?

Hello, Mara... yes, it is uliginosa. I'm pleased & amused by its success in a "hell strip" [the usually barren space between a sidewalk and street curb].... It is hardy in U.S. zones 6-9.... "Grow it in light moderately fertile humus rich well-drained soil, in full sun or partial shade. Trim or lightly cut back shoots that spoil the symmetry. Dead head regularly. Slugs and snails will attack young growth and the rhizomes."... from the RHS web site. I like my friend's 'pure stand' of it... I would, however, love to see images of it in combination with other fall flowers... Bis bald!
