What a delight at this time of year. I had no idea that there were camellias that would bloom this early. Is it tender?

What a beautiful flower! My usual question: is it growing outdoors?

Some years ago I have bought these plants in Japan and they were rather expensive and therefore I keep them in the greenhouse until I have large cuttings and then I place them in the garden.

Our camelia seasons must overlap as mine are covered with buds.

Ton, I don't know about the hardiness here, but it seems fully hardy in Brittanny (France). I have small cuttings, will try it outside in a few years. Steve, I can hardly believe that our seasons overlap, I suppose your Camellia rosaeflora will wait several months before flowering? Flower buds form about half a year before they open, I think.

Steve, By the way, as Ton said, his plant is in a greenhouse (however, in this extremely mild winter, many other camellias are now flowering outside in my garden).

Steve, you're right, our sasanquas start about six months earlier (or later), around october. So when yours start, our japonicas are finishing - there are flowering camellias at any time around the world.

Very nice. I believe provenance is very important for determining hardiness. This would be a good reason to try japonicas from Korea for example in colder climates.

Yes but I do not think that camellias from sea level in Korea would be hardier that those from higher up in Japan

Hello Roger san and Ton san I first meet you both here. I am keeping a C.rosaeflora in my garden from when I was a young man. It makes only one seed in each one fruit very seldom. As far as my experience it can not be crossed to other camellia cultivars originated from C.japonica. If it crossed to "Night Leider" or "Kurotsubaki", I think its wonderful. Hirochi, your C. roseaflora makes a beautiful small specimen tree. I would love to have such a wonderful camellia of that size in my garden. Fantastic!

Welcome back Takeuchi-san! Your Camellias are stunning BUT the endless pots of your Clematis are incredible! I do hope all went well with repotting this season.

Takeuchi-san, you have a very beautiful roseaflora but I see you have more interesting Camellia's. What a lot of pots. Are this camellia or clematis or????

Hello, Jane san,Malgorzata san, Ton san Thank you for giving me replies. It is the best season to admire camellias. Please let me put the company of camellia lovers just as at the topic of clematis. I showed you my narrow garden without knowing it. It is as narrow as cat's forehead, narrower than handkerchief for European. Though I have another small garden on a hill side about two hours drive from here, I have no surplus time to go there. The pots you see under the camellias are miscellaneous but mainly clematis.
