Happy Thanksgiving y'all! Kanjiro started blooming here in Texas last week but all the rest have not begun. What's blooming where you live? Luis

Hi Luis,

I live in the UK...
Haven't posted on the camellia site before.

Noticed a C. sasanqua "Narumigata" flowering today, so took a couple of pictures which I've posted...
Pity its not in my garden, but I do grow a C. x williamsii "Cornish Spring" which flowers in January/February depending on the winter weather...
Hope you enjoy the pictures...

Oh my! That is a very large old specimen and it obviously likes where it is! Very nice picture, Roys.

My Debutante Camellia, a japonica, began blooming two days ago. But compared to the one in your photo, mine is a baby... only 3 years old and 1.2 meters high:

Yes, my German Shepherd is keeping guard on that lonely bloom. Hee hee hee. Here is a close up of this rosette/peony-like pink flower:

Roy, your sasanqua is a fine looking shrub! I hope mine looks like it some day. My only sasanqua is almost finished, and the outdoor japonica (alba simplex) is far from opening its buds. Depending on the weather it will be weeks to months.
But I've got a new potted hybrid that is starting to flower now and perfuming the veranda. Watch this space for a photo tomorrow. The light isn't good enough now.

So many buds on Debutante! Each individual is very beautiful, of course, but do please post a photo when they all start to open. That must be a sight!

Hi Mara,

I will post photos of my Camellias once flower buds open.
The weather here has turned decidedly chilly at the moment, so I think that will delay flowers for a little while.

Look forward to seeing your photos of your new potted hybrid.

As promised, here is a "portrait" of my new Minato no akebono

What the picture can't convey, is the scent
It has turned colder here, too, and I decided to bring the potted camellias into the unheated veranda. Probably wasn't necessary, but I'm glad I've got the big move over with for this year...

A very beatiful shade of pink, Mara! I wish Camellia lutchuensis were more common over here. The growth habit of the shrub... what is it like? I wonder how would lutchuensis perform in warmer climates like Texas?

C. lutchuensis isn't exactly common here either. Only available from specialist growers, and definitely not hardy where I live. But it would surely be worth a try for you! I'm partial to small, single flowers, and if they are fragrant to boot - what more could you want?

Mara, a beautiful flower. I like the single flowers. My lutchuensis plants have every year a lot of flowers but I keep them in the greenhouse.

Very nice plants indeed. My plants have buds but they will be flowering in about 3 months from now. Thanks for posting these early views.

Wonderful flowers.
There is too soon for Camelias here. Perhaps in two months...
