I have several very old hellebore beds where all the plants are touching their neighbors. They make a nice ground cover in those areas. I can barely squeeze in a few ferns.

That is so beautiful! I love the way the pink and white form a pattern.
Mary, which ferns do you grow between them?

Mary, what a lovely display. A real treat for us hellebore lovers.

If only I had the space to grow that many...

Mara, My favorite fern for Georgia is the August Fern. It is evergreen here and toleratesour high heat and humidity.
I also have the native Christmas Ferns that came with the property and have added some Maiden Hair and Holly ferns. I am trying sensitive fern this year as well. I have a few connamon ferns but they don't get really big like they do in the North.

Mary these photos are making me second guess myself. A few weeks back I composted probably 50 large plants like this, but they're all beautiful aren't they? I guess I sometimes get too caught up in the details.

Wow Joseph! Composting them. Why don't you call your local extension office and see if the Master Gardeners there can use them in parks, etc. that they maintain. Here in Gainesville I have put many in public places and people really appreciate seeing them in late winter.

I know it's a waste Mary, but I only had a couple of weeks to do two months worth of work. Something had to give. A few people got some new plants out of it though, their first hellebores actually. :-)
