Here there are, again. I can see them in many fields when I go for a walk very close to my cottage.

I would walk there every day, come rain or come shine. What a beautiful place you live in. Marie, I loved Spain and will go again -- Sevilla, Marbella, Ronda, and especially The Alhambra in Granada. The orange trees in Sevilla, Marbella, and Malaga were all in bloom and one cannot escape the fragrance. I stayed in Calahonda Beach in Malaga, overlooking the Mediterranean sea, and made some great friends there. I can hardly wait to return.

Then you enjoyed a lot in Spain with your daughters and some good friends? good!! Yes Lovinlife, Andalucia is very, very impressive: flowers, smell, buildings, people... I live in the Cantabrico sea, just in the North and it's very different to Andalucia but also very nice, indeed I have been in USA once and we enjoyed a lot with (all the family), one month travel: Boston, Niagara Falls, Pittsburgh, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Wasinghton, New York, Boston.

How lovely to see Hellebore in the wild....and having them so close to your home. It's something I would love to see one day. I haven't been to Spain since the 70's....must be time to visit again :-)

You are indeed very lucky to have wild hellebores so close to you. Do you know what species they are and are they as yellow as your pictures appear to show?

Hi Mariae- Are those the same hellebores you collected the seed from last year? I have had some germination from the ones you sent. Did you sow any and have any luck?

Yes, I agree with you, I'am lucky for having so many wild flowers around my house. Now they are many hellebores, but there are multiple wild flowers, like crocus, primroses, aquilegeas, poppies, daffodils, anemones, variety of orchids...and more. People here doesn't appreciate hellebores at all (cultivated or wild ones). We don't use to cultivate Hellebore here. I haven't seen in any garden and it's impossible to get seed in the shops already. Terry, those are the same I collected the seed from last year. Do you have flowers already? They are so yellow as in the picture, but I don't know what species they are. Perhaps they look as foetidus?? but they have no smell at all. Anyway, perhaps Terry or Mathias would know which specie they are... First time that I saw this species of flower was in the buddies's forum and I liked much, I find them very pretty and nice and in addition they have a great variety of colors. Then I recognized them in the field, in the walks that I give for the surroundings of my cottage, where there are lots of them.

Mariae, no flowers yet. They take time to germinate, so they are just beginning to do that. With luck in a few years I will have flowers such as those. If I am correct Matthias said they H. occidentalis. Don't forget to take the camera along and share more of your wild flowers, they are always a treat to see.

Maria, it's wonderful to see your wild hellebores again. I also found them at Fuente De in the Picos de Europa last year. They are H. occidentalis (the western hellebore) as opposed to H. orientalis (the eastern hellebore). Putting H. thibetanus aside these two represent the geographical east-west extremes of the genus.

Matthias, you were very close to me last year.... it was nice for you to find some ones here, but as you said, H. occidentalis, not foetidus as you would like and thought at the beginning... Do you have flowers already from H. occidentalis ?
