As I mentioned in the other thread, I joined the tour to northern Italy to see H.liguricus in the wild in late March.
Our hellebore guide, Will McLewin took us to the fantastic sites of H.liguricus as usual.
It was a little raining when we visited there. So they did not smell so much. But the small colony is really the nice place that we could see them everywhere. They were blooming together with Hepatica and a lot of Primula. The site is located at Berceto in Emiglia-Romagna near Liguria. I think Matthias has probably been to the same site before. We were lucky to see the flowering H. liguricus even in late March because the ordinary flowering time is between November and late February in Italy.
You can also see H.foetidus in the third photo.

Toshio, thank you for the photos and your short report. I'm sure your original photos are great! You were lucky that they bloomed quite late this year, but Berceto is at an altitude of about 800 metres and they have a regular good snow cover there in winter. Of course I know the site :-) A bit further down you can find many red flowering peonies together with the hellebores in early May which is a wonderful sight.

Thank you for your comments, everyone.
Matthias, thank you for your additional information on the site.

The following place is another site of H.liguricus at the altitude of 840 meters called Monghidoro where we could see a lot of violet as well as H.liguricus. It is a private land. So, we got the owner's permission to enter into the nice hill where there are so many H.liguricus. I think it is a real paradise for our hellebore enthusiasts. I wish I could have stayed there all day long.

Toshio, I'm very glad you liked it there and you seem to have been lucky with the weather. The blue flowers in your second photo are Hepatica nobilis which I always find beautiful in combination with the light yellow Primula vulgaris and the whitish flowers of Hellenborus liguricus. In the same population you can also see Eranthis hyemalis but certainly a bit earlier in the year.

Yes, one could spend hours around there ... :-)
