We've been having a wonderful Spring here in southern Ontario with lots of warm sunny days. After our winter and spring flooding this is a real treat. I just want to say that my hellebores have never been nicer in my 11 years here, and I'm thrilled! I'll try for some photos later today. I wonder if this has been an especially good year for others too...

Can't wait to see your photos of them Marie. Some of mine are really doing well this year too. It seems the dark flowered ones are very big with tons of blooms. It could be that they are maturing, they are about 4-5 years old. I will say, most of mine are in sun, and as Tim always said, you get more flowers in sun.

Bring on the pictures! Yes, it has been a pretty good year for my hellebores too. But since our past winter was the exact opposite of yours, it's probably just a coincidence. (Or the planets are lined up in some occult hellebore-friendly way )

Yes,I have to say, my hellebores have done well this year too. They seem bigger and certainly have more flowers. Could it be the additional water? Last summer we had exceptional rainfall...and when all your snow melted....water. Maybe just a coincidence.

WOW! Marie, nice selection, it seems like a very good year for you indeed. The fifth from the bottom is very nice with the soft green/purple color and the softly spotted ones catch my eye too (well this year).

Nice seeing yours so pristine and fresh, you have some lovely flowers. I just came in from spending a couple of hours cutting off the spent flower stems on some of mine.

It's nice to have all you folks to share them with. (Not many people nearby know or care about them.)

How nice to see that finally some Canadian hellebores come into bloom! Many of these are just gorgeous, Gardenbug! I especially love the first and fifth, as well as the pink-green anmone and the red-green double. Some of your plants seem to be fairly mature! So many flowers! After this winter with so much snow we are now in a totally unusual hot weather phase. What a crazy year! The snow has melted almost completely just over the last few days (except for some shady spots), and when I got into my backyard for the first time after the winter today, quite a few of my hellebores are already two to 5 inches high. They look really distorted though, from the weight of the snow, and very pale, as they were under the snow until a few days ago. I wonder if they will go to normal over the next little while, once they will have been exposed to more sunlight. So a little bit longer until there will be hellebores from Quebec,- but until then I truly enjoy yours! Gaby

I thought I was the last one Gaby. I hope you will be very pleasantly surprised one day soon! Deanne, the tag calls them Double Lenten Roses, "Double Vision". Caution, harmful if eaten! LOL The soft pink one (photo 4,5,17 and 24) is very old...I bought it before moving here eleven years ago.

What beautiful photos! My favourites are 15, 19 & 21. I'm really impressed on how 'perfect' each flower looks...no nibbled petals, no aphids, no sign of blackspot. Do you treat the plants with insecticides or fungicides? Are they growing in the same area of the garden, or are they in various places? I would like to see a collective photo of them if they are grown together. Thanks for sharing them with us....lovely to see hellebores that are still in full bloom now that ours are going over.

Hi Dee, I don't treat the plants with insecticides or fungicides. The white ones often get splashed by mud and look a bit worse for wear, but I still love them. I grow the hellebores in several areas, but the main area is near some very old lilacs. It is shady there in the early morning, as in this picture.
I have removed the old foliage, so things look bare in the photo. In reality, you see more colour because the darker coloured ones show up. Other plants are mixed in here too: martagon lilies, pulmonaria, epimedium, erythronium, etc. More are still emerging...

How lovely, it looks an ideal spot....and it obviously suits them, as your plants are so healthy. I take the leaves off my plants too, it gives room for the other spring plants to show through...and your companion plants sound perfect. Thank you for posting.

Those are some old lilacs! The fragrance must be amazing in spring. My favorite photo is #10 from the bottom, with the slaty plant in front left, a rosy mauve plant in the middle, and H. niger far in the background. Very lovely.
