I've posted these daffy creations of mine at a few other sites,
but I've recently been encouraged
(thanks to DJ's gentle prodding

)
to share them here, as well.

Electrified Totems ~

These totems are made from old lighting fixture globes
which already have openings at both ends,
so drilling through the glass was not necessary.

After building and gluing the stacks,
a length of cable lights was put into each one
- the lights inside aren't very noticeable in these photos
taken in daylight - but they show up very nicely after dark).

My hubby did the soldered copper work encircling each one,
I think it adds a nice design touch
and it helps to stabilize them.

The shortest one I've made is about 2 feet tall
and the tallest, about 4½ feet tall.

This photo shows the illumination somewhat better,
and includes one of the "shorties".

Firefly Lites ~

So called because they always remind me
of the jars of fireflies we collected (and released)
when I was a kid (yes

glass had been invented).

Once again, these are made from the glass globes
that were a part of many table lamps and hanging fixtures
back in the 60's and 70's. I found them (the lamps)
at yard sales and thrift shops.
They used to be very inexpensive,
but, now, seem to have become kitchy collectibles

driving the prices much higher, at least around here.

I used stacks of them to make the electric totems posted above,
but for these, I simply disassemble the lamp,
find or make a hanger and drop in a string of mini lights
and . . . wah-lah . . .

trash to . . .

. . . well, okay, it's still trash,
but it's cooler, funkier trash.

Ellie, you (and your icons, of course) are such a riot! I think you can blame Denise, though, for being poked with a stick into describing how to turn "trash" into something we can all proudly display in our gardens. LOL. Thanks for the info. I cannot wait to build my first one.

Had a good look at them already on your garden site. I think they are terrific (as is all the other stuff in your garden
