This is my one of my very own Gerbera seeds germinated and is growing on very well have now repotted it into next size pot. I have to confess the Gerbera in bloom was a pot plant purchased at local supermarket.

First I have put the seed in Substrat I Klasmann-Deilmann and he has got two leaves, than I transplant (seedlings) in the other container with Klasmann substrat II. Than something strange happened. Some of the seedlings leaves lied down and start drying . I do not know what to do? please if anyone can give me some information how to grow gerbera from the seed, procedure, instruction....some help I will be very grateful. Thanks in advance >) Dreamland - serbia, Zone "?"

Greetings from a "newbie"! I have been gathering the "spent" seed heads from my gerbera flowers for several months now and I was hoping that someone on this forum has ever tried (successfully) to grow new gerbera plants using their own seeds. If so, I would be most appreciative if I could obtain information regarding what initial planting medium to use (special seed starter "soil", or what else), and any other pertinent germination method(s) that you've used to achieve desired results. Thank you and I'm very much looking forward to a long term "relationship" with this forum. Regards, Michele L.

Hello Michele and Suzana, and welcome to GardenBuddies! I hope that both of you have introduced yourselves in the Social Gallery so that everyone can meet you. I have never grown gerbera from seed, so I won't be much help to you. Suzana, I suspect that, because of their large stems, they probably retain a lot of water, so maybe they don't need water as often as some other annuals. I really am not certain, however.

Gerbera Daisy plants are amazingly hardy plants. They actually come from South Africa and some rough terrain in Australia... and grow in the wild! But yes, they need some help indoors. Consider gell packs if you want a 100% sure grow situation. Not 100% organically grown solution, but it will get you a daisy plant- blooms will follow no doubt if you leave them in a sunny spot. www.justgerbera.com

I grew them form seeds years ago. They were very straight forward.I grew them in John Innes compost and potted them on as they got larger. Two problems, they hate cold damp winters so need to be kept warm and not humid. They get terrible greenfly and need to be kept clean.I used to just spray with an insecticide.
