I emptied an old pot in which the tropical water lily had died about 4 years ago ( yes, I confess to great levels of laziness) The pot had been sitting on asphalt driveway for this time. When I emptied the pot, I found the bulb, still looking alive, maybe?? I threw it back in the pot, and within a week, it has grown new leaves. What amazes me is the length of time it was out, in dust like condition, and now it is growing???!!!

Life finds a way. It always amazes me! Yet, I baby my bat plants right to their molecular level and they die. Boo. Anyway, congrats on saving a plant that's rather expensive to replace!!

I've had plants throw in to the compost heap over the winter and still grow. I have a climbing rose that is over 12 feet tall in 4 years for just a broken twig. So plants do stay alive for a long time sometimes.
