My pond is covered completely with black netting to keep out critters but something has either frightened the fish into hiding or eaten them. All potted plants are upright, nothing disturbed. I even looked for an American bullfrog. One day the fish are all there feeding, the next, not to be seen. And they haven't fed for 4 days now. Is there somebody that is cleaning them out tidily? (I have lots of caves etc. for them to hide in underwater)..no belly-ups either. I live in coastal B.C...can anyone help?

That is curious. Is the netting large enough for a wading bird to poke his long pointy beak through? My pond has often been cursed by raccoons to the point of utter frustration but that's not at all what's going on with you... not if everything's left tidy but fishless.. Too bad you don't have a camera watching like at the bank.

They may just have been frightened. My fish went into hiding mid-summer last year and I also thought they must have been eaten by something. But this spring they are all there again, plus about 100 babies!!

My netting is quite small...the kind they use to keep birds off cherry trees......I think something may have frightened them because I found one stuck in the top of one of the planters, got him out and he swam away but never seen him either. Even to feed. So, I am hoping it's just being scared. The heron has been around plotting and planning but can't get in...crikey...I can't even get in sometimes without getting my barrett and shirt buttons tangled!! Let's hope!!!

Fish are back!!!! Found one dead one by the foot of the pond (my pond is above ground) so maybe something "fished" it out and was startled by the netting and left it there. Like an industrious heron who has been scheming.

Fish make their beds this time of the year, Stephie. I don't know what zone you're in, but that could be where they've been. They're getting ready to lay eggs, or maybe have done so already. I'm glad they're back.
